More Democratic senators have joined the growing calls for Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) to resign from office after he was indicted on federal bribery and corruption charges last week.

The Democratic Party is so quaint. Trump is the leading GOP candidate for the Presidency, so clearly being an accused criminal is not a bar to holding public office in the United States. So, why should Menendez step down?

The distraction from ‘Biden’s too old’
Is now these few bars of gold.
How can they defend this
Mendacious Menendez?
And his stance so pugnacious and bold?

Kristin Gillibrand (NY) was first to tell Al Franken to resign- Where is she on this? This is a no brainer.

As I said in a thread a couple days ago, does Schumer have a replacement problem for Menendez/Foreign Affairs similar to Feinstein/Judiciary because rethugs will not allow the replacements to be seared? F’ing up ambassador and other senior diplomatic appointments will be in the wind.

ETA. I agree that Menendez is scum and should be gone but…

Maybe Schumer needs him until we get passed this shut
down bullshit being currently propagated by the republicans? Losing a vote at this particular time may enable some shenanigans from Manchin or Sinema that neither would undertake if they didn’t have a deciding vote in the caucus?

But what, we should acquiesce to Menendez’ proving the ethics of Democrats are as slippery as the Republicans?

Seize the moment and put our honor on display. We’re better than the Republicans and we can prove it.

While ambassadorial appointments are important, it isn’t as important as judicial appointments (why we need Feinstein propped up–plus she wasn’t caught with gold bars).

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I love it when almost everyone here always bitches and moans about Ds not playing hardball. Sure Menendez is scum and has probably always been but he’s in a position that Schumer needs filled.

Holding members of your own team accountable is playing hardball.

Original recipe, or extra crispy?

I’m glad Booker gave the thumb’s down, but his statement is cringe. Menendez wasn’t serving his constituents, he was serving himself. Cut the crap.

I like Warren’s terse comment and appreciate Tammy Baldwin bringing up the national security angle.

Hopefully, his resignation can be considered part of a plea deal. If not, he’ll probably stay no matter how much pressure Senate Dems put on him to leave. The man clearly has no shame, so that won’t work.

Good that Booker finally called for Menendez to resign.

Sorry if not wanting criminals to hold public office upsets you so much.

Not upset at all.

So the ends justifies the means, even if it means having a corrupt criminal hold office.

Got it.
