Yet you derisively think it “quaint” to call for having a criminal step-down from holding public office.
I hope not. If he is guilty of committing crimes (which it is 99.9999% certain he is) then he needs to do hard time. No deal.
Gillibrand is now a yes to resign.
I am really glad to see Booker stand up.
Menendez had really shafted Booker. Gold-brick Bob misused his colleague’s trust in this scheme to emplace a crooked US Attorney.
I did a deep dive on this. Booker had given full support to Menendez’ first candidate for the U.S. A. slot. After Menendez learned that Esther Suarez would not agree to go easy on Daibes, a flood of negative stories appeared in the local papers and Booker received a great deal of negative press for Bob’s pick. I have to assume that Bob planted the seeds of those stories. After all, Menendez had found a candidate willing to tell him what he wanted and he needed Esther to withdraw her name.
Again, Booker was really shafted by Menendez. It is good that he stands up to him now.
Menendez also hurt the DOJ here. The move to indict in SDNY was brought about because of the play between Menendez, and Sellinger. Menendez fully believed he had a deal with Sellinger that would make Daibes very happy.
- e. On or about January 31, 2022, MENENDEZ again called Official-4, in a call lasting for approximately one minute and 24 seconds. Within minutes of the end of his call with Official-4, MENENDEZ called DAIBES.
f. Between approximately in or about December 2021 and February 2022, MENENDEZ directed the Advisor to ask Official-3, who was at the time the U.S. Attorney for
the District of New Jersey, why he had recused himself from the prosecution of DAIBES, when MENENDEZ had previously believed that he would not recuse himself.
Exactly. Only Dems. resign simply because they are accused and regardless of the impact on the party’s legislative agenda. Between Feinstein and Menendez, Dems are in danger of losing the senate majority and that would be the end of Biden’s agenda.
Yes, Menendez sure looks guilty and, in the storybook version of America he should resign, but, in the political world we now live in, that may not really an option since Repubs don’t play by the same rules.
Nope.
Even if both were to drop dead within the hour, both would be replaced by Democratic Senators appointed by Democratic Governors.
So you can stop your doom-splaning nonsense.
Sorry, but we are still in a country where one is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. He’s an accused/alleged criminal, thank you very much.
And, it is quaint (in the amusing sense) that Dems. still don’t understand that they are the only ones playing the game by the old rules and this unilateral disarmament is not working for the party.
He’s gone!
Hopefully only if there is a deal to replace him with someone who can retain the seat.
You are correct. They would be replaced by placeholders until next election.
Yep. And Menendez will have his day in a court of law before he goes to jail or prison (if found guilty by a jury of his peers).
So you can put away your irrelevant schtick.
Republicans are happy to F*ck around on judges, I think foreign policy won’t have the same issues…
So you were talking through your hat when you stated previously that:
“Between Feinstein and Menendez, Dems are in danger of losing the senate majority”
Even if he resigns, I don’t think Dems can swear in a replacement Senator without unanimous consent and we all know how that rule has been abused relentlessly.
99% sure this is not true.
Isn’t that what Senate GOP did to prevent judicial nominees from going through when Feinstein was out of commission for a while?
You are confusing committee assignments (Feinstein), and DoD nominations (Tuberville), with swearing in as a Senator.
Can you imagine any Republican calling out a fellow Republican? LOL. Of course not.
Although I agree with you in principle, you might want to consider that:
- Bribery is extremely hard to prove given the rather strict standard SCOTUS has made for being convicted of bribery.
- Menedez has been here before. He knows how the game is played and plays it well. Getting him to resign in exchange for a guilty plea and a slap on the wrist might be the best we could possibly get under any circumstances.
It’s not fair, but it is realistic.
