Montana Republicans missed that part of Jesus’ teaching about love, compassion and forgiveness. They missed the part of the teaching about humility and loving your neighbor. They are fear-filled, self-righteous frauds. They are neither Christian or subscribers to the values of either the US or Montana Constitutions. They are anti-American but too compromised to acknowledge it. They were handed a huge budget surplus with a chance to good things for the State of Montana and their key accomplishments have been to establish charter schools and oppress transgender Montanans. History will not judge them kindly.
That’s from where I’m posting….
Montana Republicans retaliated against Zephyr, a trans woman, last month after she spoke evocatively against a bill that would ban gender-affirming care for trans minors. State Republican lawmakers banned Zephyr from the chamber, forcing her to vote remotely while excluding her from debate on pending legislation.
Yeah, so it looks like her real crime was putting a human face on the cartoonish “other” that they’re stomping on. I’m sure the Montana legislators find it a lot easier to vote to be mean to vulnerable groups if they’re not being evocatively reminded that these are real people who are suffering real harm.
So not only are they bigots, they’re cowards and hypocrites as well. Color me surprised.
Here is my surprised face:

Hawaii is thankfully one of the bluest states in the country, but even here most of our few GOP politicians are like this. I think there is a significant chunk of people who don’t realize how extreme they’ve become, because it doesn’t affect them personally.
We know that if people of diverse cultures/backgrounds spend time working together toward common goals that it’s easier for them to integrate. We see it in sports, the military and other organizations. By keeping her as an “other” they don’t have to acknowledge her as a human. It’s also one of the problems in our politics, parties keep themselves separate and don’t see a common goal.
They’re downright Leninist (or Stalinist, except they don’t have old Iosip Vissarionovich’s talent for organization) in their insistence on hewing to the party line.
Don’t forget, you MUST tolerate their intolerance.
Heads, I win; tails, you’re trying to cancel me.
That dread disease, FOXitis. Because even in Hawaii, that poison flows through the cable into the homes, and the minds, of the susceptible.

Lately I’ve find myself wondering WTF is behind this virulent trans hatred.
Then I think, WTF is behind gay, race, religious, immigrant hating?
i believe every ascendant autocracy panders to the hatreds of its most ignorant citizens.
I don’t know if I’ve fully decoded it yet.
This MT governor proves Menchen’s axiom: A pol is a creature who would legalize something as repulsive as cannibalism if he has a constituency that practices it.
Add Louisville to that list, please.
I’d bet most states have militias.
Absolutely right. And I would bet that those numbers may have even shifted since 2019 such that the number of guns owned by a super small percentage is even higher.
Yet I heard that the governor’s son tried to talk him out of signing the bill.
For a while, when I lived in North Carolina, whenever I ran into a really interesting person, it seemed like they were from Louisville. Louisville belongs on the list. Maybe Athens, too? GA was very red for a long time.

I recall an anecdote I read about those “special” Nazi groups that would round up Jews in Poland, shoot them, dump them in ditches. One member said he was told to not look at their faces because that would make it easier to slaughter men, women, children.
Yeah, that’s it. Don’t look 'em in the face. They’re queers, don’t you know.
First, a reminder about yesterday’s evil bitches:
Republicans moved to sideline Zephyr further by canceling some meetings of the two committees on which she serves and moving the bills they were to hear to other committees, Democrats said.
She spent the first day of her exile last week battling to use a bench in a statehouse hallway. Her key card to access Capitol entrances, bathrooms and party workspaces was deactivated, according to the lawsuit.
Zephyr spoke briefly during a House Judiciary Committee meeting Monday morning. The full House — minus Zephyr — reconvened in the afternoon. Zephyr cast votes from a statehouse snack bar because several people occupied the bench.
Read the full article. As you can see below, Zephyr is back to work on her bench today. Yesterday many of us sent pleas to Montana Dems, the local ACLU, and other activists to hold that bench for her.
