MIT, Harvard Sue Admin Over Plans To Boot Int’l Students With All-Online Course Loads | Talking Points Memo

Harvard and MIT sued the Trump administration on Wednesday, arguing that a rule change barring international students from taking an all-online course load would have disastrous effects.

That didn’t take long.
Mrs darr works in the scholarship office mainly with foreign students at the very university where I taught and did research in the medical school for decades. She is now inundated with problems she is helping to sort out. I asked her about it and she said “Stephen Miller” and would not comment further… She’s pissed.

This is cruelty on parade.
I predicted yesterday that the trump admin would get sued and a shitload of angry phone calls directed their way from very powerful folk in higher education

Talk about xenophobic bullshit. These are kids who are legally here studying.

So glad the colleges are pushing back.

January 20th can’t come soon enough.

TPM, would you throw these up for discussion? I won’t paste links but they’re all over the Twitter.

1.Supreme Court rulings today
2. Vindman’s retirement announcement
3. Latest treason re-trump directing CIA to share intel with kremlin

Ok thanks.

I am SO pissed that poor Col Vindman feels compelled to leave the service because he will never advance due to reprisals.

Sadly…he was wrong when he told his father: “Do not worry. I will be fine for telling the truth.” “Here, right matters.”

Or maybe he was correct…but the “right” that matters is of the wing type.

Republicans should hang their heads in shame…Looking at you, Lindsey.

Yes. I forget sometimes that “cruelty is the point,” but it truly is. If they don’t get their way they’re happy to hurt as many innocent people as possible until decent people bend to their will. Unlike the evil that was their family seperation policy, this is one where they are literally demanding that people put themselves in situations where some will most definitely die. I truly hate these people.

Vindman “did what the law compelled him to do; and for that, he was bullied by the president and his proxies.” said his attorney, David Pressman

You’re right. January 20th can’t come fast enough!

Col Vindman did do the right thing absolutely. Like him I was forced to have to choose between silence and truth in my job (which was a good one). I chose truth and resigned. Four months of unemployment ensued. Then I was offered an opportunity in a different department of that university. I took it and right away noticed a far higher level of respect sent my way.
I suspect Vindman will land on his feet. And I bet he will find a good job and be respected for his values.

MIT’s enrollment stats for the 2019-2020 academic year.

There are 3,331 international students enrolled in degree programs at MIT—458 undergraduates (10%) and 2,873 graduate students (41%)—for the current academic year. Additionally, there are 644 exchange, visiting, cross-registered, and special international students on campus.

I hope hundreds of other universities sue as well!

I hope he does well…but the injustice burns.

Of course, he did he right thing.

Fortunately, he’ll be snapped up by some think tank in no time. He’s fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, has all that Nat. Sec. background. He’ll shake the dust off his feet and do well; and what an asset the US military has lost. You just don’t find people like that growing on trees.

ETA. Wouldn’t it be a gas if he went to work for Christopher Steele’s outfit?

Good. Sue those lying bigots who are doing this as a POLITICAL STUNT which will 1) hurt our standing in the world 2) hurt our economy and serve absolutely no one.

Eye-popping number in Monmouth poll: Just 18% of voters think “defund the police” means “get rid of police,” while 77% say it means “change the way police operate.” Trump rn is running ads portraying “Biden’s America” as one w/o police.

I hope President Biden will reinstate him (as I hope he does so many other true patriots) and give him the promised advancement in rank he was due. This is an outrage that he feels forced to resign.

Btw, is it just my computer or is this site fairly hinky today? In my account the responses from others goes back months and is not showing current responses or what I’ve posted. Also posting seems to stall on me but eventually shows up…and ‘likes’ are not being added when I click on them at times.

I sure hope everyone sues and sues… is this ruling not just another way to making the US not just a third ranked nation but a 4th or 5th. Many of those foreign students end up staying and many many start businesses.
