I think that you may have commented to the wrong post.

The man in @Scoutmom’s post died of gallstone pancreatitis while waiting for an emergency procedure. There was no available hospital space due to the overwhelming number of COVID patients.

You are right of course. I react in my scientific manner most of the time and that means I am a stickler for accuracy. I did add that this isn’t a storm to fool around with. But it’s not the only powerful storm to hammer New Orleans, the Gulf Coast and Louisiana in recent memory. CNN.com has live updates and a map of the recent hurricanes. And discobot wants into the act because I linked to cnn more than once in this thread/ I really wish TPM would give discobot its walking papers…

… … … … …
"It looks like your link to cnn.com was already posted in the topic by @darrtown in a reply on Aug 28, '21 – are you sure you want to post it again? "

Yes disco bot I want to post it again. Bugger off OK??

And the media went whole hog that Ida is the strongest ever.
As I said (and I am agreeing with you and @occamscoin) I reacted as my science training dictated. Accuracy in language. My understanding of what Gov Edwards said was probably off a bit. It seemed to me he had forgotten Katrina and the other storms.
In any case it’s gonna be ugly along the gulf coast for several days/weeks.
If Edwards had mentioned Katrina a lot of folks would get the point right off and bug out.

Katrina made landfall as a Cat 3, after falling from Cat 5.
The damage was from the flooding—not the hurricane itself.

Four Category 5 hurricanes have made landfall in the United States. The most common state to be hit is Florida, which was hit by Michael in 2018, Andrew in 1992 and the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Louisiana and Mississippi were both hit by Camille in 1969.
