Likewise, legislators, staff, and visitors have an expectation of personal safety and security while on the premises.

Not any premises you ā€œregular peopleā€ work at, by the way, just the ones we work at.

Those jackasses spent all that money on that military gear and and went to all those secret meetings. At last they get to show it all off and show the world how tough and patriotic they are.

I donā€™t blame the protesters - itā€™s hard to make up a sign stating ā€œI have a one-inch penisā€ - carrying a semiautomatic weapon is much easier.

How about a compromise. Open carry is allowed, but legislative security is allowed to shoot anyone it deems a threat, even if they have not yet brandished their weapon. You know, treating armed protestors like people of color.

California including Ronald Reagan with the support of the NRA banned open carry in California after a group showed up with rifles at the state capitol. Oh waitā€¦the group was the Black Panthers. Thatā€™s different.

Not sure, but donā€™t other state capitol buildings ban guns from their premises? Doesnā€™t the U.S. capitol building ban guns? Anyone?

So they constitute a small-armed militia?

After all, theyā€™re only celebrating Michiganā€™s proud heritage of their leading role in the Confederacy, during the War of Northern (except Michigan) Aggression.ā€¦

Short answer: yes.

ā€œOur citizens have an expectation to freely demonstrate and redress their government at their state Capitol Building,ā€ says the R leader. Notice he says ā€œatā€ and not ā€œinā€. Thereā€™s your tell right there.

Hey Michigan. The whole world is watching.

ETS @benthere The US Capitol does ban guns. IIRC a senatorā€™s aide was detained and ?charged? for carrying a concealed weapon that the senator later admitted was his and the aide took it to save him face.

The gun fetishists not only want to carry their guns inside the capitol building, they want to use them.

The US Constitution preserves ā€œthe right of the people peaceably to assemble.ā€ I think showing up in the public galleries above the legislature floor armed to the teeth rebuts the ā€œpeaceablyā€ prerequisite.

Violent redress is a thing in MI?

Iā€™d be curious to know how much of this is genuine concern for safety and how much is chagrin at how ugly and ridiculous the whole spectacle looked now that it actually happened.

I grew up around guns. My dad had a collection of pistols rifles and a couple shotguns. We went pheasant hunting when I was an older teenager. My dad ALWAYS stressed safety. ALWAYS assume a gun is loaded. When cleaning a gun that has been taken apart for this purpose ā€¦ even then do not point the barrel inappropriately. My dad would have a real fit over these idjets and their boy toys and their deliberste stupidity.
