Michigan Weighs Banning Guns From Capitol After Protest

Did the capitol building in Michigan not have a metal detector? And were any of these noobs carrying concealed weapons?

An unfired gun is one that’s useless except as a bat.

That WAS the NRA
50 years ago, before they turned into a major ad agency for the gun (excuse me, weapons) manufacturers.

Laws vary. Some states (probably most) ban open and concealed carry, whether on capital grounds or inside the building. But the Second Amendment/NRA/micropenis set have been deliberately easing restrictions wherever they can.

That was part of the craziness. In similar incidents if you’re open-carrying they wave you around the detectors.

Take out you phone and keys and put them in the basket. Your AR-15s can go right through!

Let’s see. Should we allow heavily armed, hostile fools come into the capitol and wave their weapons in our legislators’ faces? Or should we not do that? Hmmmm?

Of course. They should have no more protections than the regular citizenry out there.

So if it’s okay to open-carry loaded long guns in public, then it should be fair game in government buildings.

If the legislators are concerned about their safety, well, then ban open-carry of loaded long guns in all areas

Within a couple weeks of mass shootings, both New Zealand and Canada banned assault weapons.

Here, in the land of the ammosexual?

Petulant children run wild.

Ask those who are against the banning why the NRA does not allow guns in their offices and their conventions?
Ask why the Republicans do not allow guns in their conventions?
How are these bans not unconstitutional?

Just to help you unlock their memes, the Hawaiian shirts are a reference to “luau boogaloo,” with “boogaloo” being the Second Civil War that they’re hoping for. “Boogalooo” is itself a dumb reference to another sequel that was dumber than the original, namely Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo (1984).

Very clever, aren’t they?

You’ve left out that they are probably well lubricated with alcohol, as well. Yes, what could possibly go wrong?

That is the question. But first, members must have time to discuss the question with legislative leaders, both chambers’ sergeants and Michigan state police, i.e., until the uproar has died down. Now is not the time to politicize . . . © 2015, GOP

My Cub Scout troop attended an NRA meeting in our livingroom in 1957 or 1958 if I remember correctly. The people even brought an 8mm film on gun safety that we watched. I thought it all very sensible. Gun safety being a good thing. Boy has the NRA ever gone off the deep end. Money and the power it brings has totally corrupted them. And they have no sense of shame just like the rest of the trump folk.

A few suggested definitions of threat:

  • your long-arm firearms (real or fake) must be pointed straight up in the air or directly at the ground. Anything else is a threat.
  • pistols (real or fake) must be kept in a closed holster. If the pistol comes out or is otherwise not secured, you are a threat.
  • using any language that implies a threat to injure or kill a person is a threat
  • having a sign or garment that implies the desire to injure or kill a person is a threat - that includes the use of graphics like a cross-hairs or a gun range target.
  • assaulting police officers or counter protesters is a threat

For chrisakes, just do it; enough is enough. Yahoos are a pushy, noisy bunch but letting them run policy is civic malpractice.

The mere presence of long guns is a threat. If you’re not on your way to a range or to go hunting or the like, there’s no reason to be carrying.

From the caption of the article photo: "Armed protesters provide security as demonstrators take part in an “American Patriot Rally
”

NO, THEY DON’T!!! WTF!

Kate, and TPM in general, please correct the caption immediately. There is no reason to believe that these people provide any security to anyone - just the opposite, the very goal is to make things less secure. Security against what threat?

Anyone, please be more carefully about unwittingly recycling right-wing propaganda on TPM. Thanks.
