Michigan Republicans Launch Petition Drive To Circumvent Dem Guv With New Voter ID Laws | Talking Points Memo

Michigan Republicans have launched an effort to institute new voter ID restrictions by circumventing Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) entirely.

the petition drive

Each Michigan Republican voter had better get a lawyer to check the petition carefully before signing it. The Party has a way of secretly charging your credit card each month, whether you know it or not.

I didn’t know bamboo grew in Michigan.

Bamboo has re-vegetation value. You must be thinking of poison ivy.

Republicans are becoming more of a minority party every day, and are fighting for every little bit of power they can retain for themselves, and are becoming more radical as they do so. In the meantime, COVID still rages, the Constitution is under serious threat by the RW, and the potentially catastrophic effects of global warming are beginning to be felt.

But, hell, keeping republicans in power, even without any kind of positive agenda, is the only thing that really matters.

This looks like another variation on the old GOP tactic to attack their opponent’s strength. They dishonestly attacked John Kerry’s military service as a swift boat commander in Vietnam. With this, the GOP is using the initiative process to restrict voter access to the voting booth.

Good Lord! Why even have a vote! 3.4% of the population, not even registered voters.

Why bother with elections, government procedures, voter registration, citizenship, age restrictions.

Bamboo grows in almost every state.

Dems need to fight back using same state laws and tactics throughout the country.
Some things we can do:

Challenge rural vote counts in places like where partisan GOP officials like Mesa County CO Clerk purposefully did not count Dem votes. We can now assume that one reason Dems have struggled to win elections in rural areas is because local GOP officials have intentionally thrown out their ballots without counting them. We should assume all GOP officials are corrupt at this point.

In states that have election recall laws Dems should aggressively seek recall of all vulnerable GOP officials. If Larry Elder wins the governership in California, the Dems should file paperwork to pursue his recall, the day that the current recall vote is ratified. They should also seek recall of all GOP legislators. We should use the process to activate Dem voters to resist GOP corruption by using the same tactics as MAGA folks.

Our message should be that all GOP officials are are corrupt and challenged by all means at this point.

Oh well. Better clean up your social media and other presences. Your incoming permanent minority-rules white Christian overlords will certainly be checking on everyone in the future.

How in the world can it be legal for petitioners representing 8% of the state’s electorate to empower the state legislature to circumvent any veto by that state’s governor? What kind of constitutional law prevails in Michigan?

If this is a legal dodge permitted by Michigan’s constitution–and one that goes to the heart of the right to vote–then the U.S. Congress must pass appropriate protection for the right to vote, and the U.S. Department of Justice then must move energetically to put a stop to such blatant disregard of citizens’ right to vote freely.

Yelling about rigged elections as the reason you need to rig the elections. I want to call it something more than “big fat lie,” something insightfulish, you know, that sounds like I’ve been puffing my pipe, deep in thought, but “projection” has been done to death and “meta” isn’t quite right either.

I guess this is the One Weird Trick that secessionists in the 1860s should have done: secede in all but name and work to destroy the Union from within.

Because that’s what allows them to pretend their minority rule over the country is legitimate. Just ask Putin…he’s coaching them every step of the way.

The Detroit News noted that the group’s initial treasurer, upon its founding in December, was the chief of staff to the chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.

Well, in that case, I’m sure that any “treasure” which the group might have had no longer exists.
