Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson stated on Sunday night that she and her family were threatened the night before by a crowd of armed individuals outside her home who were verbally attacking her with President Donald Trump’s lies about election fraud.
Aren’t there police in Michigan any more? Doesn’t the state at least have noise ordinances? Why wasn’t this thing broken up and dispersed, people arrested?
I agree- there is no mention of police action in the story here but another article I found said this: Although the group dispersed with no arrests when police responded just before 10 p.m. Saturday, Michigan state officials accused the group of “terrorizing” Benson’s family.
This is disgusting behavior, and it’s happening to all kinds of public officials.
I read yesterday that the superintendent of a school board in Arizona has been threatened and harassed about his decision to keep district schools on remote learning due to Covid and and is probably going to resign his position as a result.
Josh echoed something I’ve said here before. Trump isn’t going anywhere. And his incitement of followers will continue, throughout the Biden Presidency. He’s declaring himself a candidate. He’s going to continue to feed his narcissism and need for attention by holding rallies. His money grift will pay for it. He may even coerce contributions from the RNC and other party coffers to defray the cost of it all. Other than his inability to actually put policy into effect we may see little difference from a Trump in office and one out of office. And in some ways he will still dictate policy. GOP members of Congress will be threatened with primaries for defying him, and it will work. If he sics his base on someone they will respond, enthusiastically and brutally. Losing the election will be but a small dent in his daily presence in our lives.
I’m sure Trump will very quickly condemn this … nasty statement by the Michigan Secretary of State, as well as again condemning the rigged and stolen election and all of the Democratic officials in the state.
And he will praise and encourage the “patriots” who were peacefully exercising their god-given Constitutional right to support the former reality TV show host.
Armed trespassers on a senior state official’s property is met with official silence and I’m assuming a police response that included high-fives, hot coffee, and snacks for the domestic terrorists.
I think we’re doing alright, like we just might make it to January 20 with a democracy on life support, and then shit like this happens.
Good that none of the domestic terrorists felt provoked because their feeling got hurt or were scared. Glad no one else was hurt. And of course… complete silence from the GOP.
Until there is more wide-spread recognition that armed individuals showing up in front of a private home for the purpose of intimidation are actually terrorists and not somehow “protesters,” this will keep happening.
You do NOT need a gun to protest, but you sure do to threaten and intimidate in the manner of a lynch mob.
There is something wrong with a society that accepts this – and I ask myself what has to happen before the threat of domestic terrorism is finally recognized for what it is. And the appropriate legal actions are taken to protect us from that terrorism.
Well, they lost the first time around. we just have to be sure to thoroughly put them down next time. Gives us more years of reprieve until they mate like rabbits and begin there crusade once again.
The stunning part of this is that those people feel that they are totally justified in doing this. They have the righteous position. I don’t see a way to end this–even if the instigator-in-chief told them to stand down. I hope that Biden increases security around federal buildings in the future. I’m sure that these people think of McVeigh as a role model.
The purpose of carrying weapons is to intimidate. These individuals went to her home. Enough already, there are limits. Each of these individuals should be charged and brought before a judge for using weapons to intimidate a state representative and trying to prevent her from performing her job. This is not acceptable.
seems like this is perhaps part of the logical conclusion that Josh has discussed in a recent reader email post “Trump is the leader they were waiting for, not some charismatic fiend who led patriotic Republicans astray.” and with this in mind, the focus on the second amendment is part of that outgrowth, knowing (either subconsciously or consciously) that the’d need to have all the guns and open carry to exercise this sort of power or cosplay of power to keep this charade up.
