There are non-Democrats who have a legitimate place on the political spectrum. As one friend of mine put it, “there’s no place for me,” because his party has been hijacked by insane people.
Our system needs to find a place for them. I don’t know how that is going to shake out or how long it will take, but the crazies need to be pushed back to the fringe so that people with legitimate non-Democrat views can have a forum and a place on the floor again.
Legitimate political debate about issues that have no consensus is a necessary part of a functioning democracy. I disagree with most of the R platform, but not ALL of it is unhinged from reality. If we can’t find a way to rehabilitate the R party, or at least incise the cancer from it, then the past 12 months is just going to keep repeating itself every election cycle. I’d prefer that not happen, I just can’t see at the moment how the course gets changed.

So now, this brings up another in the multiple versions of what could happen today:
What happens if any or all electors refuse or fail to vote at all? What happens if they simply don’t show due to the intimidation factor?
Not asking just for Michigan, but all the States and stuff involved. Since this was written as a header into the law in Michigan, can we assume that all the States have these provisions or something like them? What happens if, rather than be faithless electors, they simply choose not to cast at all for either?

Acting like the heavies on the Edmund Pettis Bridge usually loses votes.
The armed protests at Lansing probably lost them votes in November. A significant amount.of vociferous support but a larger number of people thoroughly disgusted.

I would suggest now that, since the election is behind us and there won’t be another one for a year or more, they have nothing to lose. Absolutely nothing. The memory of the American voter is shorter than that of a flea. And far too many American voters would agree with actions perpetrated by these knuckleheads.
Always remember and never forget: 70 million American voters voted for Trump. 29% of them now believe that Biden will be the next President. That’s a pretty big number that don’t believe.

I know the guy who runs the EC meetings in Albany, although he is not doing it this year, and there is no mention of anything like that here. There may be horn beeping and flag waving, if that.

Haven’t read much about Dec 14th as to electors casting votes so far as time frames. Since the Constitution only specifies a day I’ll assume each state has until midnight to poll electors. I’m curious by what time this evening it will be announced all 50 states have convened, voted, and released their results?

There’s a tendency to view things from a short-term historical and a near-sighted global perspective. When something bad happens here, many see it as the worst thing to ever happen, anywhere. Or, a major hit on our democracy means that it’s dead, proto-fascism is open fascism, Trump damaging departments means they’re totally destroyed, etc. All of which is nonsense.
