Merrick Garland Will Vow To Prosecute White Supremacists In ‘Heinous’ Capitol Attack | Talking Points Memo

The very same software runs your toaster-oven, Ted Cruz, and the Perseverance rover on Mars.

Resistance is futile.

Quoting from another article.

“Garland, who must be confirmed by the evenly split Senate, is expected this time to gain enough support from Republicans for his nomination to go through.”

We will soon see.

It allows readers to give a “like” to the author. In this case Summer Concepcion. Discobot simply plagiarizes the authors to put a short intro on the latest topics page, and then proceeds to annoy.

If confirmed, I will supervise the prosecution of white supremacists and others who stormed the Capitol on January 6 — a heinous attack that sought to disrupt a cornerstone of our democracy: the peaceful transfer of power to a newly elected government.”

I read this as a definite yes. That Trump and other Republicans should quaver. The questioning during his confirmation hearings should be interesting.

And winning Georgia means he doesn’t necessarily need to soothe Republican’s hurt fee-fees - that there may be consequences for their aiding an insurrection.

My guess:

The QAnon tourists who just milled around the Capitol posting video to Parler will end up with probation or 30-90 days.

Anyone proven to be armed with a weapon, including flagpoles in many instances, will do time measured in years. So will anyone who breached the House and Senate floors, or congressional offices, as will the bastards who broke doors and windows to get into the building. Anyone proven to have assaulted cops will do time measured in even more years. The most vicious of those bastards will do in excess of a decade.

The conspirators who planned the insurrection will do 10-20 years. Roger Stone will die in prison, and Donald Trump will die pending his sentencing.

Some of these people already have felonies on their records, and their sentences will tend toward the longer end of the sentencing ranges. Proud Boys and Oathkeepers are similarly fucked.

Since I haven’t been following the Senate Judiciary Committee since it was formed, what strikes me looking at the make up of where the red senators vs where the blue senators come from is striking. And the male vs female ratio.

Why does it take a week to advance his nomination out of committee? And once that’s done, how long before he is confirmed by the full Senate? These lags make me mad.

I’d ask if Discobot if you’re really Hal9000 but I know you’ll just change the subject.

I desperately want him confirmed, but won’t be shocked if these yahoo GOP senators blackball him.

If I am confirmed, serving as Attorney General will be the culmination of a career I have dedicated to ensuring that the laws of our country are fairly and faithfully enforced, and that the rights of all Americans are protected,”

This is the other key phrase that makes me think Judge Garland will follow the law faithfully wherever it leads him. “Culmination of a career”, means that, like Biden, this is it. He has nowhere else to really go after this chapter in his life. Sure, he may consult or work in the private sector, but this is the end of his long and distinguished career serving the public. In other words, he’s saying he has no fucks left to give.

Here’s something to keep in mind:

Since the dawn of the Republic, roughly two thousand men and fewer than sixty women have served in the US Senate.

Of the fewer than sixty women, twenty-four are serving there now.

And of the twenty-four, sixteen are Democrats.

Just wondering - I’ve read that some of them left stool samples. Does anyone know whether they’ve collected those for dna identification?

 Had it all.

" LET’S CHANGE THE MOOD FOR A SECOND !!!

"
I talked with a homeless man this morning and asked him how he ended up this way.

He said, "Up until last week, I still had it all. I had plenty to eat, my clothes were washed and pressed, I had a roof over my head, I had HDTV and Internet, and I went to the gym, the pool, and the library. "I was working on my MBA on-line. I had no bills and no debt. I even had full medical coverage.”

I felt sorry for him, so I asked, "What happened? Drugs? Alcohol? Divorce?”

“Oh no, nothing like that,” he said. “No, no… I was paroled.”
