Of course he is.

Yeah let’s see where he is when the smoke clears after November.

“After this November election is over, regardless of who wins, there are a large majority of Americans who are completely convinced our political system is fundamentally broken, and they’re going to be looking for something different,” Hogan told the Times.

I think it’s a fair point to remember that in 2016, Rump ran on the political system being fundamentally broken, and that Americans were looking for something different. What they got was much more of a broken system among a lot of things being different. I used to think that Hogan would be a very formidable opponent on the Rethugs side. Not any more. Seems to me that most all Rethugs now have the taint of Trump (no, I didn’t say “Rump”).

He’s welcome to try (it’s still a free country), but i hope no one reminds him that regarding the pandemic, he’s part of a medical at-risk group.

There is a pre pandemic poll out that has him defeating Van Hollen, in a future h2h.

It’ll be curious if those numbers are still there, but considering that Americans have the shortest memories, it’ll be interesting to see a future 2024 effort from him.

Hogan and Baker (MA) can both run and see who gets laughed out of the primary first.

Both are far to reasonable and pragmatic for today’s Republican party

Hogan is a decent guy, who has enormous support from his state’s voters in a heavily blue state. He applies reason and pragmatism to the issues he has to deal with.

He has zero chance of surviving in an open Republican primary for President.

How about actually Governing, Gov?

I wouldn’t put much faith in a pre-pandemic poll. I don’t think our memories are that bad.

Looks like we prefer the same adjectives!

We are clearly watching the same show! :sunglasses::+1:

He’s surprisingly a decent governor (his Freddie Gray response is somewhat better than Trump’s George Floyd response), but while history will remember him well, folks will also remember that he’s a modern day Republican.

The last part is a problem.

As always, you’re correct, and I realize Hogan is one of the least objectionable GOP governors. I just think that the timing kinda sucks, starting a book tour during a global pandemic.

He would have to know that if Trump won this November, the country would vote for any Democrat over any Republican in 2024.

He could be dangerous in the general, especially if a Biden administration has to do a lot of hard and unpopular things to recover and then either Biden is frail in running again or his VP runs, but Hogan would have a hard time in the R primary unless there’s some miraculous transformation of the party over the next four years that reverses the past 30+.

Something people need to remember - Hogan has a very blue State Legislature reigning him in, so he appears moderate.

2024 is a looooong way away, but I am reasonably confident that the republican primary will be a shit show.

But how the GOP reacts as a party to post Trump world will be very telling as to just how bad it will be. And I’ll say, Cotton is the one who scare me the most. Not only because of his views, but because he is already playing it “smart” politically. He is going hard right, but is not tying himself to Trump…indeed, he is sort of making the case that Trump is incompetent, and that’s why the GOP needs him…to be just as evil, but more effective.

I’m struggling to make an acronym for “GOP” that means “automatically disqualified.” Get Outta Politics, maybe? Naw, too lame.
