McConnell Tries To Woo Manchin Into Joining GOP After BBB Blowup

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is trying to coax Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) into ditching the Democratic Party after the West Virginia lawmaker tanked President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better plan on Sunday.

Mitch McConnell is an unrepentant slob.

And there it is.

So many people here wondering why Manchin is allowed to get away with everything?

Fear of the D-to-R switch. That’s why.

It’s been said other places - but he won’t switch. He has the Ds cow-towing to his whims. If he’s a 51st R - he’s just another NO vote on everything and loses all his power as a D that says NO…

Manchin won’t switch sides…it would make him irrelevant. He’s an arrogant ass, no way he gives up the power he currently has.

If Manchin were to join the rethugs he would become number 51; having little to no power with iron fist Mitch having all the power. As a D he gets almost all of what he wants. He ain’t going anywhere.

“Kyrsten Sinema has been quite unequivocal that she is not going to break the Senate and eliminate the legislative filibuster,” the GOP senator said. “Thank goodness for that.”

Then McConnell added quietly so the microphones couldn’t record it, “She’s leaving that for me once we regain control of the Senate.”

Right now he’s the most powerful man in the Senate. If he switches sides, he becomes the least powerful man in the Republican Party…

McConnell was approached by Mephistopheles, who offered him virtually unchecked power and longevity in exchange for having to look like a plush turtle that was run over by a herd of incontinent wildebeests.

As the old saw goes: Mitch, Manchin, and the DC Press must be mistaking me for someone with a plenitude of fucks to give.

I agree with those who do not believe Manchin will switch to R where he becomes just another reactionary rat-packer. Frankly though he would be better as an Independent while continuing to caucus w/ Dems because he is an embarrassment, at least currently. The senator we need to worry about is Sinema IMHO; there’s a joker in her deck somewhere.

PS: That image of McConnell and his rictus grin has compelled me to add a splash of bourbon to my morning coffee. Too many more like that TPM and I’m going to need 12-step.

He’d be a fool to switch, as he gains nothing but imagined dignity and infantile payback, and loses the power to influence anything, as he’d be the lowest-ranking member of a 51 member caucus that given its unity likely won’t ever need his vote for anything. He’d go from being a spoiler and dealmaker to being a non-entity.

Sheesh! Manchin is much more effective a chaos agent as a dem. Why on earth would he switch sides and why would you want that?

It sickens me to see McConnell gleeful. Especially this time of year.

Perhaps it’s a pre-death rictus. The Xmas season is a time when wishes come true.

Can someone explain Manchin’s attachment to the D label? Is this a kind of vestigial WV thing?

Anyway, he needs to call Joe Lieberman to see how that Independent thing worked out. Bernie he ain’t.

Finally, if someone can find that gif of McConnell as Palpatine, it would be fitting here.

And shut off the valve to the three-inch hose bursting with money flowing into his account? No way!

Manchin should be smart enough to see this is an offer from a snake in turtle’s clothing.

The moment he’d switch sides he would both lose all of his power over the Senate and lose the next WV GOP primary. McConnell would have no issue leaving Manchin high and dry during the next election, once he’s outlived his usefulness.
