Odd strategy by Mitch - if he obstinately forces a showdown… a real “for all the marbles” … “decide which camp you are in”…
Showdown … he loses … Manchin may go rogue from time to time but when it come to a “are you a Democrat … or are you a Republican” vote … Manchin remains a Democrat … and Mitch dies by a thin margin … but in do or die … when you die … you’re dead.
More of a perpetual immotion machine. It breaks the conservation of energy in the opposite direction. The more energy you put in, the less you get out.
Time to make Mitch totally fucking irrelevant. Call every bluff. Call in Harris to break ties every day if necessary. If Mitch wants to use a Senate rule, change that rule. No negotiating with Mitch. He gets nothing. Send him to coventry and place his turtle ass on a fence post there. It’s what he deserves, and it’s what the country needs.
Perhaps a DOJ investigation of Dept. of Transportation records under the previous administration, along with an FBI invitation for a sit-down with the individual’s wife would do the trick?
Show me one populist leader ever who wasn’t. The whole point of populism is a demagogue stirring up the mob with appeals to emotionalism. They use the people they attract.
I should imagine that there is quite a bit of pressure being applied to both Manchin and Sinema on this issue.
A slow, steady pressure, and McConnell’s fear-based screed won’t help him keep those two from changing their minds about aspects of the filibuster.
It is not going to disappear this week—or even this month—but it is going to disappear sooner than most people believe it will.
Mitch’s petty and vindictive attitude won’t play well with average Americans who are benefitting from the American Rescue Plan, and who hope to benefit from other Biden/Harris initiatives.
I would hazard a guess that Mitch has crapped in his own mess kit this time.
Mitch McConnell, the face of the modern GOP. Or is he really just that old crank who refuses to take a bath until someone gets him the right brand of Tapioca.
