McConnell Threatens To Grind Senate To Halt If Dems Don’t Let Him Keep Power To Grind Senate To Halt

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) came out with his strongest threat against abolishing the filibuster yet on Tuesday, warning that he will use procedural delays to turn the Senate into a “100-car pileup” if Democrats go nuclear.

Who are you to threaten us now, Mitch? You aren’t the majority leader anymore.

I hope they call the wattled dying motherfucker’s bluff–preferably by telling him “That’s OK, Mitch: we’ll pass HR1, wait for you to die, and expand the majority.”

You know, I am so sick of his threats and breast-beating that I am inclined to say, yeah, okay, bring it on, asswipe.

I suspect there is more than a little bluff and bluster, and Schumer should call him on it.

Remember the last delaying tactic? The reading out bit? That worked out well for them.

“Nobody serving in this chamber can even begin, even begin to imagine what a completely scorched-earth Senate would look like,” he said.

You mean, like, withholding a confirmation hearing on one candidate for months and then ramming a FedSoc nut job or two into the vacancies? No one could possibly imagine that sort of behavior in the “World’s Greatest Deliberative Body,” no, sirree. Also, too, take a flying leap at a rolling doughnut, you lying sack of crap.

Same here - let’s go to war. He has very little ammo. They all voted No on the COVID bill and we got it passed.

Then… maybe I’m an idiot… vote to change the rules so that a unanimous consent vote cannot be forced for these things?

I see no good reason to take Mitch McConnell at his operating-in-good-faith word.

Bring it on Mitch.

So what is the difference between what the situation is now and the one McConnell proposes? Right now with the “virtual filibuster” a minority of a minority dedicated to not governing can stop anything from becoming law. Seems pretty hellish to me. As Durbin said if McConnell starts his stunts, further reforms can stop them.

EXACTLY what The People need in the wake of a deadly pandemic.
Gridlock over fabricated, insidious “traditions” like the filibuster and electoral college?
A crippled process where we need good governance?
That would just hasten the demise of your party, Mitch. Maybe that is all that remains?
Imagine a public completely burnt out on the Trump-residue like this in 2022?
The old mid-term majority thing might not hold true this time around.
Clearly, watching McCarthy grovel at the border for the bigot vote proves they have nothing new.
The filibuster is a rug that needs to be pulled out from under Mad Mitch.

The reason McConnell’s threat is so obviously empty is that passing a voting rights act makes it much harder for the current Republican Party to ever take back the Senate Majority let alone win a national election for president and McConnell more than anyone knows this.

Given how he behaved over the past several years, I’m finding his threats of doing worse… somewhat… hollow.

Merrick Fscking Garland, and the Notorious RBG, for example. Besides, if we put enough of he Sedition caucus in jail, and we really ought, then, the GQP isn’t going to be a going concern.

As the great Admiral Horatio Nelson once said: “Fire as your guns bear.”

I’m going to guess it would look exactly like the Senate you have been “leading” since Obama was sworn in the first time.

Fine. Make it a talking filibuster. And to accommodate all of the Toothless Purple Turtle’s procedural votes make it a five- or six-day work week.
