So it’s official - let the divorce proceedings begin. All of a sudden, those years of smiling to the outside world about how wonderful things are will devolve into claims of hidden abuse and psychological torture. The new meme - what Trump did was wrong but it would be unconstitutional to impeach him and besides all of us hippies just want peace and harmony.

Moscow Mitch said only that he intended to “listen to the legal arguments”. He has no choice in that, the legal arguments are the articles of impeachment and the senate has to hear them. Witnesses and evidence under subpoena are something else, he didn’t say he’d pay any attention to those.

Donors undoubtedly key, but I would have no knowledge of what else matters to him, although I think the party as broadly considered would be near the top. Perhaps we can agree that fund raising is part of, perhaps a major part of, the future of the party?

I don’t think Mitch McConnell deserves any gold stars, but I think it’s important nonetheless. One, the Big Lie needs to be broken, and that can only come from Republicans. Two, I think it’s a positive sign for a Senate conviction. Three, the stuff we haven’t heard yet must be truly awful.

I don’t get it that they give Trump extra credit for the judges. Any Republican with a pulse could have gotten them confirmed by a Republican senate. He just happened to be there when seats came open. Likewise the tax cuts. Getting tax cuts through a Republican Congress takes special skill???

Businesses have pulled back on funding, but that’s direct contributions to candidates, we’ll never know if they’ll still contribute to leadership PACs.
And then there’s the optics of 5 dead after the riot, the jeopardy the members of Congress and VP faced, and McConnell had to say he condemned it. Otherwise their law and order shtick is out the door.
