Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had a laugh when Amy McGrath, his Democratic challenger, jabbed at him for allowing the Senate to go on recess in August instead of working on legislation to address COVID-19.
It’s nice that the suffering of millions of Americans, and the tacit admission that you’re ignoring it (or worse, enjoying it), still brings a chuckle.
ETA: Don’t ever try to claim this man doesn’t have a sense of humor.
He just wants to force the new Supreme Court vote and then leave the economy in such a horrendous state that it will take years to correct. The poison pill approach is one he hopes will allow the Republicans to take control of at least the House at the midterms. If not, they have four years of blocking anything and everything they can so people will support them. What a leader, but then, what did anyone expect? He’s a new Republican.
Use telephones Mitch? He is from the days of using telegrams.
But the real insult is his chuckles because for him to blame the lack of bipartisanship on the House Democrats is laughable for the Democrats, he is the person who stopped most of Obama’s court picks.
They’d have to hold hearings first, to investigate matters. But being so close to the election, they wouldn’t want to politicize the issues. Plus there just isn’t enough time. And the high roads need repaved.
All the clever talking heads cannot bring themselves to say it.
Right now, McConnell is in a position to hurt people and that’s the long and the short of it.
For all the brains we Democrats have, it is astonishing how little we understand the concept of utilizing the assets we have. The Georgia early voting story evoked ebullent and positive posts (just as anything dealing with Moscow McConnell would necessarily evoke disgust and anger).
The former represents the types of memes we need to add to our daily ration of GOP sadism.
One other thing:
There was a flashpoint of recognition by many that the “Don’t TELL ME what I CAN’T DO!!” theme that propeled the Civil Rights Pioneers is being invoked when GOPPERs try to stop us from voting. Lots of POC–and their allies–are checking in with parents and grandparents to hear their stories of struggle
