Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Tuesday blocked Senate Democrats’ initial attempt to increase direct COVID relief payments to $2,000, a day after the House voted to boost cash deposits from $600 to $2,000.
We’ll be seeing this daily for at least a couple years. ON EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF LEGISLATION BIDEN WANTS. ON EVERY SINGLE JUDGE BIDEN NOMINATES.
McConnell can even pander to Trump’s base. “Why should I cooperate, Biden didn’t really win the election, he’s not the rightful holder of the office.” Doesn’t have to put it so bluntly, just the old wink-wink nudge-nudge routine. A twofer.
“There’s a major difference in saying you support $2,000 checks and fighting to put them into law,” Schumer said. “The House bill is the only way to deliver these stimulus checks before the end of session. Will Senate Republicans stand against the House of Representatives, the Democratic majority in the Senate, and the President of their own party to prevent these $2,000 checks from going out the door?”
McConnell swiftly objected to Schumer’s request without comment.
That sounded like a resounding response to me - MoscowMitch is going to table this, just as he has everything else good for the American people the House has already passed. I don’t know why we expect him to do anything different.
I don’t like the lack of result, but it is somewhat satisfying to watch these crusty old badgers twist in the breeze as they keep the rabble from having money in their pockets.
It continued: “We write to you now because you have positioned yourself as a prominent leader of the ongoing misinformation campaign by pretending to have some sort of ‘insider’s knowledge’ regarding Dominion’s business activities, when in reality you were hired through a staffing agency for one day to clean glass on machines and complete other menial tasks.”
I will advise my Republican friends, that live in the Atlanta Metropolitan area to abstain from voting, the machines are rigged and flip the votes, so by voting republican all you are doing is increasing the margin for the democrats. Rural counties are OK, but avoid voting in Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb and Gwinnett, you don’t want Dems stealing the Senate election like they did with Presidents Trump landslide victory.
“You gained international infamy earlier this month as Rudy Giuliani’s so-called ‘star witness’ who could supposedly corroborate outlandish accusations that Dominion has somehow rigged or otherwise improperly influenced the outcome of the Nov. 2020 US presidential election,” the letter, which was first published by Law and Crime, said.

Alas…my school girl crush on Melissa Carone has withered.
Could be another simpler reason. He wants to hobble Biden’s ability to get another stimulus package through Congress after this one, and he doesn’t want a $2,000 precedent set here.
As for the effect on the Georgia runoff, I think McConnel has made a calculation that it’s enough for Loeffler and Perdue to just say they were for it, and that’s enough. They don’t have to actually deliver. If it goes through, it means their Dem opponents were right.
Republicans traditionally have a huge advantage in the GA runoffs, as older and rural voters are much more likely to vote, specially now that they managed to scared voters from voting by mail. Also, Republicans have been flooding the media with the most negative campaign ads I have ever seen, even the ads in the sudoko app in my phone are blasting Raphael Warnock. Mitch is betting that all that would have an effect, and he is probably right.
