McCarthy Won’t Cooperate With Jan. 6 Info Request, Insists Investigation Isn’t ‘Legitimate’

Who could’ve seen this coming?

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) rejected the House Jan. 6 select committee’s request for information on the Capitol insurrection, including his conversations with then-President Donald Trump during and after the attack.

McCarthy knows how Trump behaved and what he said on that phone call, and from what I understand, it was not a pleasant call. He cannot afford to reveal what was said and become Speaker, because it would be very harmful to Trump. Fortunately, he wasn’t strategic enough in the moment when he was truly horrified as to what Trump had wrought to keep the contents of that call quiet from others. Those others who have testified to the Committee.

It’s the FOUNDATION of the GQP: only the white male evangelical christian GQP is legitimate. …which justifies (in their minds) anything they choose to do

  • And that illegitimate committee will hold illegitimate public hearings.
  • And they’ll write up an illegitimate report.
  • And they’ll make illegitimate referrals to the DOJ for prosecution.
  • And the illegitimate DOJ will check those with info from stool pigeons who pled guilty.
  • And illegitimate indictments will come down against the heroes of Stop the Steal.
  • And in the illegitimate courts will be held illegitimate trials against our political prisoners.
  • And the illegitimate juries will illegitimately hand down convictions.
  • And the illegitimate judges will sentence those American Heroes to federal prison.
  • And…I’m cool with that…

Probably Qevin’s reaction has been anticipated. I cannot imagine that people like Cheney and Schiff (especially Schiff, who was the victim of a Qevin lie) would not anticipate Qevin’s reaction(s).

In fairness, how many criminals are ever actually willing to confess their crimes?

… Cheney told CNN, adding that McCarthy was “clearly trying to cover up what happened.”
“I wish that he were a brave and honorable man,” she said.

It’d be nice to get a pony, too.
Neither, of course, seems possible in my current life.

McCarthy genuinely believes his own hype about re-taking the House. And he genuinely believes his own hype about becoming speaker if and when the House flips. McCarthy is delusional.

McCarthy is, more probably, toast either way…

Domestic terrorists invade the Capitol, attack and try to kill cops, members of congress and staff, shit on the floors, trash offices, wave the CSA flag, which Trump was egging and cheering on, and Charlie McCarthy had conversations with him that day that were “not remotely related to the violence that unfolded at the Capitol"? Doesn’t work that way, dummy. Witnesses don’t get to challenge the legitimacy of investigations they’re asked to cooperate with. And he is a dummy. Next step is a subpoena, then a criminal indictment for refusal to cooperate. This has to be played hardball. They send one of yours to the hospital, you send ten of theirs to jail (they can send themselves to the morgue with their covid-curious behavior).

In his announcement, McCarthy claimed the committee was “not conducting a legitimate investigation” and that its “only objective” is to “attempt to damage its political opponents,”

The committee has political opponents? Is it running for office now?

In the annals of weak tea, this is so weak it couldn’t lift a barbell made from a Q-tip.

Yep. I hold no brief for any Cheney, but I wouldn’t get into a knife fight with them unless I had a howitzer.

OT… but related.

These guys are all about to go through some things. Strap in. I sense some turbulence, ahead. And by “turbulence”, I mean, of course, criminal prosecution, followed by jail time.

Unfortunately, there’s no real precedent for having any outside authority interfere with the behavior of the Congresspeople while in Congress. It’s a bit like When Preston Brooks beat Charles Sumner senseless with a cane in 1856. This behavior was okay with Brooks’ constituents so nothing was done.

There is absolutely no way SCOTUS would ever take a stand on what Congress could do to force a sitting Congressman to testify. They’ll simply say that this is a matter for the House to sort out among themselves and it’s not their place to interfere with the internal affairs of another branch of government.

Congress has no means to force its members to behave. Only the people who elect these people can check their behavior and, right now, McCarthy’s constituents couldn’t be happier with his antics.
