The Supreme Court has already found that a couple of states are going to be redistricted. There will probably be more. McCarthy is on a razors edge right now. Good luck Kevin.

to serve the people of NY3. Providing excellent constituent services to the people of NY03 and proposing common sense conservative legislation

When has Santos done any of those things? When has he had time? IIRC, he has spent practically every second of his term running from the law, and it looks like that will continue.

I mean, hell, when is he even dialing for dollars? Guy’s only hope at this point would be a dark money donor who simply pays for the entire campaign. Which, to be fair, is a very real possibility. His whole bail situation made it clearer than ever that Santos is the property of some one, specific dark oligarch whose name nobody is allowed to know because that’s how campaigns work in John Roberts’ America.

Run, Georgie, run! I predict a big loss, followed by a period of incarceration.

The other thing I foresee is an unpleasant primary fight that will help whichever democrat runs in that district.

And the House GOP is near to useless as a positive force.

The headline is misleading in that no “bet” is involved. There is no way if Santos is the Republican nominee that Republicans will keep that seat. If Santos is the Republican nominee, it is a 100% certainty that it will go to a Democrat in 2024.

In short, McCarthy is taking the only path toward a Republican holding that seat. No bet is involved.

With all the media fluffing Kevin gets, it might even be worth an episode in The Righteous Gemstones.

The McCarthys, who are most relaxed next to a body of water, enjoy scuba diving and favor Cayucos as a Central Coast escape. They also like to read. A lot. Judy is fond of James Patterson novels, but said her favorite book is the Bible.

She may consider her husband the more social of the two, but she has navigated the social media waters adeptly. She posts Bible verses and quotes of encouragement almost daily.

“God put on my heart as an outreach,” she said of what she sees as her 'ministry." “I am not the politician’s wife. I am my own person and a Christian.”

McCarthy should be wondering whether he’ll even be back in the House in 2024.

Doesn’t support a guy who is basically a liar and a thief.

Actually, I don’t think that’s the bet he’s making at all. He is making the bet that Santos and all the continued drip, drip of stories about him are an active and continual drag on the GOP’s efforts to hold the house.

McCarthy is doing the math that Santos is dead in the water in his New York district anyway, and in the process he’s dragging down other New York Republicans and even, to some extent, the entire national brand.

The headline is not one that I’m a fan of because it implies to a certain extent that McCarthy is throwing Santos under the bus due to some sort of ethical or moral considerations. He’s not. He was more than happy to stand beside Santos when he was trying to obtain the Speakership in the first place and needed every vote he could get his hands on.

The same calculus applies here. The GOP is MORE likely to hold the House without Santos running for reelection than they are with him. Any generic, bland, non-extremist corporate New York Republican has a better chance of winning that district (and not embarrassing other Republicans in districts that are in danger of being flipped to the Dems) than Santos does.

Still of the opinion that Santos, McCarthy, and the GOP all deserve to be stuck with each other. Santos didn’t get rejected by his party for being too criminal, he was rejected for being too visible.

Only Trump gets that privilege.

This.

If McCarthy was truly taking a principled stand, he call for Santos to be expelled today and a special election called for promptly.

Instead, he’ll keep Santos in the House now and try to replace for the 2024 election.

Correction: Republicans are electing idiots.

The Democratic party is working just fine filtering out most of the idiots, grifters and corrupt.
