Only incarceration allows me to reinforce to my supporters and opponents alike that Free Speech is welcomed â but assault will not be tolerated,â Gaetz wrote. âIf the defendant is not subject to some incarceration, then word will be out that a first assault is functionally âfree.ââ
Shortly after Gaetzâs case was referred to state attorney Steve Meadows, Gaetzâs driving license was reinstated. Despite a time period of a yearâs suspension mandated by Florida law when a driver refuses a breathalyzer test, Gaetzâs suspension was less than a year long. Gaetzâs refusal also did not lead to a criminal prosecution, where it could have been used against him.
We ought to buy that lady another drink -so she can toss it at Gaetz, too. If someone starts a go-fund-me page to pay her fine I will happily contribute!
OT - but hereâs a bit of breaking news from Politico that involves another another Republican Representative in Florida:
The Justice Department is conducting a criminal investigation into Florida GOP Rep. Ross Spano over alleged campaign finance violations. Spano has denied any wrongdoing.
The revelation came in an announcement by the House Ethics Committee, which has been asked by DOJ to defer its own probe into Spano while the criminal investigation unfolds.
