“Saying or implying that the court is becoming an illegitimate institution or questioning our integrity crosses an important line,” Alito complained to the Wall Street Journal.
This guy is an idiot. While the court is independent in many ways, if it tries to remove 50 year old rights from well over 1/2 of the country approved by 62% of the country by demanding the majority adhere to a minority religious point of view any thinking person would expect the general population to conclude the court is being run by a bunch of clueless political actors.
Without doubt he should expect the court’s legitimacy to be questioned. People expect the court to promote and protect the majority’s understanding of the law, and moral norms. If it doesn’t its legitimacy is naturally called into question.
You could come here. Right now the palms outside my window are swaying 10 feet back and forth and my pool is overflowing. To hell with Seattle…all they have is great food, fantastic people and some of the world’s best wine.
I read the article, it’s a serious charge and situation, but I could help wonder why anyone would have the last name of Posthumus. I mean dropping the ‘o’ shouldn’t have fooled anyone. Or did this family name arise out of subsoil?
Destroying the legitimacy of the Supreme Court by issuing faith based decisions (ostensibly drawing on inaccurate historical readings) which are in violation of the Constitution crosses a far more important line.
