CNN’s wait time and the volume of hot air they must produce to fill their self-inflicted, desperate void, should be the absolute least of our worries. The first worry should be election integrity, which the app has compromised by epic failure. The app also invites online hacking, which is another category of epic failure.
Ballots should be written on paper, tallied by humans, double checked by different humans, and reported manually by a third set of humans. The rest of us humans should just expect to wait a day or three for our fellow humans to do their work. There shouldn’t be an app.

Agree with your sentiment. Though IMO it could have been done. You don’t reinvent the wheel. Somewhere in The App Universe is the foundation for the app. Finding it, and the right developer was possible-- with the right people in positions. Testing for confidence? Is the crap-shoot. Far too many devices, users and scenarios.
And maybe? All of the above did occur.
No matter. Still a very big, very red flag.

It is not like this is the first time Iowa has held a caucus. I wonder if we are seeing some sort of Dancing Bear style interference.
First time they had to report the way they reported though this time around, in multiple ways.
I didn’t see his name anywhere in any of the results. He’s a good guy, but has absolutely, positively no traction. Before you say no one’s given him a chance, he’s appeared in how many of the forums? What’s his fund raising been like - is he anywhere near any of the front runners?
Don’t blame the process. Blame the candidate. If after all this time he’s not at the top of the heap, it’s not us. It’s him.
BTW, for the record, he deserves a place in the cabinet in a Democratic administration, but he hasn’t earned the big chair.

An average implementation takes no less than 6 - 8 months and that’s if the software is relatively mature and requires no customization. You’re absolutely right (spoken as a software applications consultant for the last 24 years).

Software is the work of human beings. Human beings screw up. In the case of software when there is a screw up it is a real mess.
Software created by politically connected people is generally bad.

There should be an app. But it needed a lot more time than two months to be developed and tested.
Dare I say it…but maybe just because a thing is called an “ap” it still might not be worth a shit? How about this. Count the votes manually. It’s Iowa ( 3 million people in the entire state ) with over a 1000 voting polls. How many could be in each one? Then after counting you electronically send in your tallies. email or Fax. That used to work well.

Terminating caucus primaries and having a direct vote would constitute a “rigged system” with respect to the B.S. campaign. The caucus system was especially “kind” to his candidacy in 2016.
Although caucuses suppress the vote of working people, caregivers, those with disabilities, and folks who are unwilling to be harangued by those more loud and verbose than themselves, having a direct vote would diminish the impact of more “passionate” voters with the free time to withstand the caucus process. That is why the B.S. campaign was so insistent on “protecting” the caucus system in 2020. Everyone knows that his supporters are “more passionate” and should, therefore, have a system that “rewards that passion”.
