So glad I logged out at nine last night and kept plugging away at reading a good book.
Can’t believe Pete may be the winner of Iowa and Biden is in fourth place.
What are you talking about (Apartheid, Iran hostages, I have no clue what you mean?)?
Why is this a problem, this delay of results? Because the journalists do not receive an immediate result, so they cannot meet their copy deadlines?
In many countries elections results take a while to be counted and checked. This is/should be a normal part of democracy.
And new ideas and plans are absolutely necessary: The environment (have you heard of the cratering of the insect population; it has been 8 degrees Celsius warmer on average in Sweden this winter…) cannot wait, young people cannot wait, poverty is reaching ridiculous levels in this, the (allegedly) richest country in the world, debt levels are vast, education is unaffordable.
Alarm bells are ringing, and that is why, as far as I understand this morning Biden or Klobuchar have no traction in Iowa, while the more radical and imaginative candidates won the caucuses.
In terms of the turn-out, I would like to see how this compares to the population growth (or decline, if that is the case) of Iowa; it is not exactly a booming state (I spent some time there in the 2000s and the only population growth seemed to be made up of–often undocumented, I suspect–immigrants who worked as meatpackers, etc.; since little has been done to give these people their papers, I am sure they usually cannot caucus). So turnout will hardly be growing.
Yeah it’s a mess. It’ll take some effort to clean up if that’s even possible in politics which are by definition messy unless you slip into an autocracy like the Republicans. But we’ll struggle along without you. Your non-vote (or your Republican one, because they’re so beautifully organised) will help lead to a second Trump administration. Now don’t come whining back with if more people abandoned the Democratic Party they’ll see the writing on the wall. We don’t have time for grand gestures. These are the short strokes friendo, we’re fighting for our lives here, this is easily the most consequential election in my life, maybe the most consequential election ever. Bitch about the lack of order and put some skin in the game. Volunteer, make a difference. Take your message into the party.
Low tech is best! .
App Used to Tabulate Votes Is Said to Have Been Inadequately Tested
The app was cobbled together in the last two months by a Company connected to the DNC. There no way you can program a solid secure app in two months. The DNC is playing Keystone Kops again in this election. When will we get some responsible people running things for us?
Thus ends the tyranny of Iowa. Enjoy the back of the line in 2024.
I decided to go on a news blackout from Saturday - Monday and woke up to this. Boy did I make a good call.
I logged out for the past 3 days. What a mess.
Please let this be the end of Iowa being first.
The 2008 Iowa caucuses were held on January 3rd of that year. I’m wondering if turnout was boosted by students who were still on break.
In any event, I’m more interested in how 2020 attendance compares to the average of the previous 5 and not just to the 2008 peak.
Someone please explain to me why Iowa even matters??
I’ve never understood this either. Iowa is not a representative of the Democratic Party.
This is a issue with underfunding the system that was used to get results. They built this app way to recently and didn’t do enough QA on it apparently. Both parties have messed up the Iowa caucuses.
But My point
Who is to say it wasn’t hacked
Time to return to paper
As it is who knows when we’ll see results . With paper we could have an honest answer in a day . Everyone has been conditioned to instant results and are disappointed if 1/2 hour after the polls or caucuses close we don’t have a clear winner
The smart way is to do both, electronic to do things quickly and paper to verify that everything went alright afterwards. The way they vote in Iowa is dumb paper or not.
Remember when signup started for the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)? It was a big mess! Obama was blamed… the AFC was bad! (Not to mention it was a jobs killer, according to Trump.)
So, they brought in some people who knew what they were doing and they fixed it.
Iowa needed to have done that. But don’t blame them overmuch. This is one thing that can be fixed because the precinct captains do have the voting records.
“I belong to no organized political party. I’m a Democrat.” – Will Rogers
Still true.
Nothing like getting off to a good start in Democrats’ efforts to de-throne Trump.
Another reason Iowa should not be first or matter 2 twits.
With nothing other than speculation I’m putting my money on Russia for this fiasco.
Roll out of the ACA was more of indictment on the federal procurement process then anything else, and after the company that was used messed it up, Obama had to step in and bring in experts.
If I didn’t KNOW that this is America, where all elections are honest, I might have thought that someone, someone either from an opposition party or from a country that didn’t like America, maybe could’ve, would’ve got into the reporting/counting system. But that would never happen here. Our election systems are secure.
