Hogan isn’t naive. He knows the reason Trump was outraged is that he contradicted the narrative, and he knew what would happen when he made the order.
Indeed, he likely meant to undercut Trump. He could have ‘thanked’ the administration for their ‘help’ with the Koreans if he wanted to avoid making the administration look weak.

I have to wonder if this is one factor behind trump’s immigrant ban. Governor Hogan’s immigrant wife helped negotiate the test kit deal with South Korea, and trump probably lumps everyone with Asian features in his mental bins for “Chinese” and “Foreigners”.
This sounds incredibly petty - but we are talking about trump. He thrives on lashing out at people that displease him.

yes, there is logic. An ASIAN women - not WHITE man - showed him up. Bad enough to be showed up, but in Trump’s racist/sexist view of the world, that an Asian woman showed how it was supposed to be done is a real slap to his fragile ego.
Hogan is smart enough to know this, guy having sent out his wife to get it done, really ought to come to her defense.

It’s halfway logical. Trump is being shown up as inept, while this governor is able to get something done without him. Both because of his ego and because he thinks cultivating the image of being the only guy able to do anything is good for his perpetual con, he has to lash out. Where his logic breaks down is that he ought to have seen this coming, but he isn’t smart enough or temperamentally capable of planning ahead.
