Reckitt Benckiser, the company that produces Lysol products, was forced to remind people that injecting oneself with disinfectant is a bad idea after President Donald Trump seemed to advocate it as a vaccine for COVID-19 on Thursday night.
“Please do not ingest or inject disinfectant,” tweeted Dr. John Shields, a surgeon at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. “I feel like one should not have to say this.”
As do I, doc. One should not have to say that. Even as a lay person, it seems unwise and likely to cause more harm than benefit. Unfortunately yesterday was a missed opportunity for the White House press corps to ask the president if he’s out of his motherfucking mind. I was out of my own listening to them just calmly go along with it. I’m familiar with the Stockholm Syndrome and all but this is not quite the thing amid mass death this moron pretty much directly caused. It won’t do, really. And I feel like one should not have to say it.
And the absolute irony of this is that the ONLY ones completely insane enough to try this are Rump’s acolytes. Rump is now a modern day Jim Jones on a much larger scale.
You really have to step back and admire this breathtaking analysis. The orange genius / mad scientist has really outdone himself, a new and glorious low. No, really, it’s his bestest ever, at least in the arena of advancing the cause of science. Many are saying it —
"So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it’s ultraviolet or just a very powerful light — and I think you said that hasn’t been checked because of the testing. And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that, too.
“I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”
One of the hallmarks of the dangerously stupid is the consistent belief they’ve found great solutions that experts somehow missed. https://t.co/YjdO02MSzM
I wonder if Reckitt Benckiser, maker of Lysol, is worried that their product might become synonymous with death and insanity much in the same way Kool Aid became.
ETA: If Pres. Obama had suggested this, the WH would have been burned to the ground with him and his family in it at the time.
I wish there were camera shots of the person he was talking to, ostensibly one of his “experts” that knows the only way s/he keeps that job is to agree with whatever the dumb orange fuck says and then hope he forgets about it by the next time they speak. Would love to see that person’s face as Trump was talking about injecting disinfectant and shining a “very powerful” light inside people’s bodies…
It absolutely feels that way but if you recall he’s made idiotic remarks like this for as long as we’ve been aware of him. It was years ago he said Obama founded ISIS, and then he was with Hugh Hewitt who threw him a lifeline, saying “You mean by pulling out and leaving a power vacuum, right?” And Trump doubled down, I mean he founded ISIS, OK? He. Founded. ISIS. It’s of a piece with the invisible planes and raking the forests. He’s an idiot. I think it’s only the context that makes this seem worse than ever. You unconsciously think well, it’s a pandemic, certainly he’ll get serious now. But he can’t. He’s an idiot during pandemic times just like in times of no pandemic. Idiots gonna idiot. That’s what we’ve learned here.
