So the city of Louisville wants to settle without any information on WTH happened? This doesn’t sound good for the police.
The settlement offer must include the arrest of the officers involved.
I’d insist on an investigation and prosecution by an independent agency, preferably one far away from Louisville.
No damned way Trump forgoes slagging this settlement.
“I was only charged because the City of Louisville was desperate to get out of a lawsuit” is a pretty good defense to criminal charges.
Breonna Taylor’s life was worth far more than any monetary settlement. The cops need to be held accountable.
The family needs to take the money and get far away from Louisville.
“The largest settlement previously paid in a misconduct case was $8.5 million in 2012, to a man who spent nine years in prison for a crime he did not commit, according to news reports.”
Being murdered is obviously extremely worse than being incarcerated, even wrongly, for nine years.
The cash settlement will be large.
Louisville Offers to have taxpayers settle with family of Breonna Taylor.
The family needs to make sure the settlement does not include releases for any members of the Louisville police. They’re never going to face any criminal charges, so ruining their dumbass, racist lives in civil lawsuits will have to serve instead.
This type of things upset me. The tax-payers get to foot the bill fro the actions of those thugs. My preferred policy change would be to place the cops in their own pension fund separate from the general state employees. And then pay any settlements from police brutality and excessive use of froce from this Police pension fund, we would not need to do anything else to root out sadistic thugs, cops would do it themselves.
Your move Daniel Cameron.
Why?
Police union and pension funds should contribute to settlement.
Cold comfort for her family, I’m sure, but the right thing to do. Also, per the post, “The settlement will include reforms on how warrants are handled by police.” We’ll see…
Did not see your comment. Agree 100%.
Should, but will not.
The money should come from the police union. A few settlements paid for like that would get some results in the reform department.
Or take it out of the police budget.
