Lots Of Election Workers Say They’re Done With The Job

Twenty percent of local election officials are “very” or “somewhat unlikely” to continue serving in those jobs in the 2024 presidential election, according to a new survey pointing to a sense of unease among the public servants running America’s elections.

Maybe it’s time for retired Democrats to volunteer…we truly have no more shitz to give…

We will pretty soon be a country without election workers and public schoolteachers.

This is but one goal the fascists want in their quest to control and manage and subvert elections.

Yes but it could easily backfire to universal VBM.

Someone should ask VA Gov. Youngkin whether he thinks people involved in election fraud deserve to hang.

ETA: One could put together a pretty good list of Republicans who’d swing from the neck, if judged by this standard.

If I had my way I would implement the Mexican way of running elections. Electoral fraud was stuff of legend, it was called “Electoral Alchemy” and it’s practitioners for some reason were referred as “racoons”.

But they managed to clean them up by getting the government out of running them. Elections are run by an independent commission. And the key in my POV is that the actual poll polling workers are not paid, they are randomly drafted among the voters of that precinct, they are the ones checking the voters IDs, giving out the ballots and most importantly counting the votes. Once the votes are counted and the results form signed by the workers in charge they are cast in stone no BS recounts, the principle is that you have to trust citizens running their own elections and counting their own votes…

Armed guards in front of synagogues these days, why not voting precincts? I mean, let’s face reality here; I don’t want to hear about how sad it would be. It’s just as horrifying in front of a house of worship.

I would like that. Election day is outmoded. It’s really a pretty undemocratic idea. There are too many reasons a given voter can’t make it to the polls on that particular day. VBM and drop-boxes make voting easier, as it should be.

agree - but you’d need armed guards at the drop boxes to keep the fascists from stealing them.

We are smart enough and strong enough to do this right. Just keep the grifters out

Vigilance is necessary, but I think reasonable security measures would suffice - a well-designed drop-box, lighting, and security cameras.

And medical personnel.

Or in strongly controlled red states eliminate most voting that is not done by physically presenting oneself at polling place. So yes to early voting, but only in person early voting, at a small number of locations.

And damnit again I cry why do these fools think drive thru voting is Satan’s work?

Election boards were fully stacked with Republicans, and fully rigged in favor of Republicans, in 2016. And it worked! Republicans turned out in record numbers everywhere. They voted for every Republican, up and down the ballot except Donald Trump and those two Georgia carpetbaggers who got thrown out of the Senate thank God.

President Biden won Wisconsin by a smaller margin than what the Libertarian got.
The election was Donald Trump’s to lose, and Donald Trump lost it.
It is he, at whom Republican should be pissed.

I guess it’s easier to believe in a multi jurisdictional conspiracy that remains obvious to anyone with a You Tube basic account, but somehow the best legal minds in conservative America couldn’t produce a shred of evidence in favor of it.

I think this already to be put in place in FL. They reduced the numbers of drop boxes, and those drop boxes must be under video surveillance 24/7.
There’s a measure in a small rural county in GA that wants to reduce 7 polling places down to one. This idea came out of the county board of elections that was taken over entirely by Republicans, and which now has untied Republicans and Democratic voters alike against the measure in the county. They filed a bipartisan law suit. :grinning:

You’re right. I mis-remembered the gop stealing drop boxes in California in 2020 but what they actually did was place illegal ‘fake’ drop boxes in various locations.

That is just as sleazy as stealing the real ones.

I reminisce about using the old mechanical voting machines. Entering the private booth and using the big lever to close the curtain. Flipping the little levers to select candidates. Finally, pulling the big lever that opened the curtain and registered the votes. There was effort involved and there were creaks and clicks as the machine advanced the internal counters.

One brought one’s children into the private booth or made them wait outside. Voting was a physical process then and made for a memorable event.

Public school vilification and a generation of mismanagement are coming home to roost.
