Like Vow To Appeal Trial Date, Trump Often Makes Promises Online That Won’t Hold Up In Court

As soon as U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan set the trial date in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Jan. 6 case against Donald Trump for March 4, the former president posted a predictable tirade on his bootleg Twitter app crying “Election Interference!” and, among other things, vowing to appeal the scheduling decision.

As Chutkan set the date for jury selection Monday, Trump’s lawyer John Lauro immediately objected to the date, saying that Trump’s team would abide by the rules, but he claimed attorneys would not be able to pull together an adequate defense by then, TPM reported this morning.

I’m having a tough time figuring out how long it takes to put together your defense when your defense boils down to two words: “Hunter” and “Biden.”

Gee, criminals claim innocence while committing more crimes.

That’s so hard to imagine.

“Chutkan said she would be watching carefully for anything that might poison a jury pool”

Like the defendant being an unrepentant career criminal (who can’t shut up) for 77 years?

Errr… one cannot appeal a court date I think. One could ask for a different date but an appeal? Not really.

It did not work.

This will be Trump’s delay defense, he will fire his lawyers then claim that his new lawyers need time to prepare. This works until it doesn’t at which point it sucks to be him.

Ummm Mr trump… hello? Jack Smith has been on the indictments since November of 2022 and not 3 years as you say in your post. All four of your indictments were brought this year and not three years ago…ok? So quit with your lies.

It’s the criminal trial hat trick. Another first for DT!

Apparently, the defendant has to be present at criminal trials, so I’m curious to hear whether one or two judges waive that for him or if 2 have to be rescheduled.

As with anything Trump, I’m not interested at all in anything he says since that is all lies and BS, 24-7. What I’m interested in though is how reporters and media outlets repeat and interpret what he says. They are the fulcrum over which the balance of justice will be ultimately decided. I’d like to think that this “chicanery” will be derided frequently and often in the press…but their penchant for simple stenography has been well established.

Trump and his small rotating group of lawyers have 6 full months to dig into the facts of this trial. That seems like an adequate time period for this non-lawyer. Perhaps Trump should hire more lawyers (finally paid out of his pocket) or get a court-appointed lawyer if he thinks this is an inadequate period?

It will be a great day when in the fullness of time and the justice system…trump is sentenced to prison as the criminal traitor I believe him to be.

Trump once bragged about being “really really rich”. At that time it was estimated he was worth about $3 billion. He said $10 billion. I find it very curious that the day before his recent surrender for his mug shot and the rest he sold Mar-a-Lago to Don Jr for something like $435 million. Zillow estimate is MaL is worth about $29 million. Discussion here at TPM was he was protecting that property from legal seizure. So, why did donnie suddenly have an over powering need to get his hands on a shit load of cash if he’s this ultra wealthy billionaire?

Lauro seems to be relying on the “We are not very good lawyers, haven’t been paying attention to this case over 2 years, and must work very, very slowly” Defense.

Trump will be claiming “Inadequate Defense” soon.

Even more satisfying will be his shaved head in full pale flower accented by an orange jumpsuit. No more polyester mane, hairspray, and tanning gel in the slammer…unless the SS turns into aestheticians.
