Let's Go Branding

Um… that is a still from the movie.

Ok - but it is still his image. Is the government using this or is this a spoof?

That is my spoof of the rhetoric being used by this administration. I can’t figure out if a lot of the players were influenced by a lot of 80/90’s films but got the ideas wrong or if they really are generating a lot of this anew. It like Musk and his technocrats citing a lot of science fiction and fantasy work and totally missing the point.

Someone tell me where the mistake is, please. I went down a rabbithole after seeing the MTG news thinking, “Well, we better get her signature on that three-year ACA enhanced subsidies discharge petition before she leaves!” Googling commenced and I found this Hill article telling me:

House Democratic leaders introduced a discharge petition Wednesday designed to force consideration of legislation to extend expiring ObamaCare subsidies for another three years.

The link at “discharge petition” is to H.R. 780. The text of that petition would require House to then consider “the bill (H.R. 1834) to advance policy priorities that will break the gridlock.”

H.R. 1834 is a Christmas tree of random bits that does NOT seem to include the Obamacare subsidies. It is titled: “Breaking the Gridlock Act” and begins by creating a Congressional Time Capsule. I skimmed and did some Ctrl-F searches and did not find anything related to the ACA subsidies.

If this is all there is, then it is designed to feed garbage to the Dem base. And it’s bullshit. This is a petition to force the House to consider … some other amorphous stuff, details to be worked out at everyone’s leisure.

THIS is how it is done. The text of the Epstein Files Transparency Act discharge petition was self-executing and Does The Thing; this is why tiny J was powerless once it passed and Thune hot-potatoed it on.

Someone with better legislative search skills than I, please, please show me I am wrong. Find me a discharge petition that orders a three-year extension of the ACA subsidies and nothing more in a clearly-labeled, rally-behind-the-flag fashion!!!

I heard on a Bulwark podcast that MTG is leaving two days after her pension vests. Also, she’s leaving her Republican House colleagues in quite a lurch, at least until her replacement is confirmed (you won’t drag that one out, will ya little Mikey?) due to their slim majority in the House.

So while I sympathize with her receiving death threats - that is completely unacceptable - I think she’s still looking out for herself.

The House seems to be far from finding an answer, but then the Cassidy and Scott proposals in the Senate are just sad. Trump has had decades to learn about the issues, yet he hasn’t. The US chose, inexplicably, to go down a road no other advanced industrial country has. We tried to borrow the Swiss model, and the ACA brought us closer, but never really got to full mandatory insurance. And we allow vast free-riding. For example, in 2023, the U.S. spent approximately $13,432 per capita on healthcare, while Sweden spent around $7,522. You could cut healthcare costs simply by moving to a universal system paid for by taxpayers in a fairly transparent system.

You expect a lot from him. He just has the big ideas. Learning things is for the little people and they fill in the spaces.

It’s hard to reason with people who are poor listeners. Nobody can get a word in edgewise when Trump is flooding the zone. Indeed, we are so used to it that when Trump went silent for a couple days the nation thought he had died.

Why does this feel like an non-event?

For anyone not in her district, it is a non-event.

Until the pension information is discussed, then it affects all of us.

Shorter MTG: So what if Neocons, Big Pharma, Big Tech, Military Industrial War Compex, foreign leaders and the elite donor class are ravaging ordinary Americans? Even though I ran on the program of helping my American voters and fighting these evil Democrat forces, I’m quitting and leaving them in the lurch so I can kick back and live my best life! It’s all about ME!"

And you may have doubted she was a good Republican…

The thing is, though, that all four of those reps should be censured.
