Finally!

Welcome, Sen. Welch.

Well, if a Democrat can’t win in Vermont next year, we’re pretty much fucked anyway. Hopefully the Dems will find a good candidate to take his place and not just run a Party regular whom nobody likes (anyone remember Martha Coakley?).

Good.

Leahy is the Senate’s most senior member (a few months older than Vermont’s independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is 80)…

Um, age and Senate seniority are two distinctly different things. Just ask 88 year old Senator Grassley.

Biden is so screwed starting January 2023. And he can forget getting a jurist on SCOTUS from that month forward also.

Probably.

As much as I admire Senator Leahy’s service, be nice to get some younger blood.

Leahy’s been a senator since 1975. Grassley, 1981.

So long as all the election clerks and boards in VT haven’t gone pure Q-Anon before the election, yes.

Never take anything for granted. We need Breyer’s retirement now.

U’m, you misspelled “senility”.

Awww. I’ll miss that post-stroke incoherent blather.

You’re thinking of New Hampshire.

Manchin won’t vote for Biden’s replacement for Breyer unless the nominee assures him in confirmation hearings he/she will never cast a vote doing harm to the coal industry.

Now if Justice Breyer would just take the hint…

He’s a fine man and I wish him all enjoyment in his retirement. Justice Breyer, care to join him?

ETA: Apologies to @john819 and @katscherger; I posted the same thought without reading the whole thread. Glad to see great minds think alike.

If Breyer steps down, what’re the odds that Manchin and Sinema would agree to seat a replacement…
