Gladdened to hear it!

Letā€™s hope the hospital decision was made just because Leahy is old and not because there was a serious signal of ill-health.

I believe that if there was something at all serious, he would still be in hospital. Iā€™m just guessing of course.

This is very good news for him and his family, the Dems and patriotic Americans and hopefully not the Repubs and other Insurrectionists.

Dealing with that shit would do a job on anybody. Glad Senator Leahy has people looking out for him.

Hallelujah!!

Glad heā€™s home.

However, this hospital run highlighted that it is Feinstein that is longest serving after Leahy.

Feinstein needs to retire but instead filed for re-election in 2024, this month.

Feinstein cannot handle Leahy current role.

I heard lots of internal thought filters were strained by the question, ā€œOMG, whoā€™s the governor?ā€

The Governor of Vermont is a Republican, but it doesnā€™t matter. Governor Scott has said he would replace a Democrat with an Democrat.

But it is an interim appointment. There would be a special election held within six months to fill the rest of Leahyā€™s term.

With the jungle primary in California the Democrats have a good shot of replacing Feinstein with another Democrat - if it does not turn into a fight among those who was a Black woman, an Asian-American, or another Latino.

Stay safe, Pat! We need awesome people.

I have every reason to believe that, unlike DJT and the members of his administration, Senator Leahy values his life and welfare above the optics and, so, I expect heā€™ll do what is medically necessary.

One of the good guys.

Glad to hear everything checked out well. It is interesting, though, how airline pilots are required to retire at a certain age, but not politicians.

While wisdom definitely comes with age, the will of the voters can rapidly be overturned in the Senate if a Senator of one party passes on, and that state has a governor of a different party.

At least the current Vermont governor seems to get the concept of fair play. So farā€¦

She will be 91 in 2024. And if she lives to the end of her term, she will be 97.
And some aides claim sheā€™s already in cognitive decline. If California reelects her, I wouldnā€™t be surprised. Becauseā€¦ Harvey Milk or something.

Peter Welch, VTā€™s current (and only) Rep is a Democrat and will be the next Senator. Vermonters have always advanced their Rep to Sen when an opening occurs. The jockeying will be for Rep, as I see no slam-dunks in their chambers.

This event casts further doubt on Leahy presiding over the Second Impeachment of Donald Trump. At first, I was gladdened, because Chief Justice John Roberts ā€œpresidedā€ without actually doing anything, either to restore order or enforce trial-type norms such as evidence, testimony, and the like.

But Leahyā€™s health and lack of vigor donā€™t particularly recommend him, either. Arenā€™t there any good prosecutorial Democratic senators available? Anybody who will impose trial-style discipline?

To be honest, piloting requires reserves of physical strength, endurance, and fast reflexes. Weighing facts, alternatives, evidence ā€¦ deliberating, not so much.

It probably did his heart no good to hear his ā€˜colleaguesā€™ hide behind procedure instead of standing up for our country. Bunch of craven, venal candy asses.
