After daring to invite Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and ex-FBI Director James Comey on its morning program, President Donald Trump’s favorite network gave him another black eye on Sunday.
As more people wake up from what’s not even hibernation time yet, the numbers are bound to go up. The Rethugs have nothing except for screaming incoherently about things they make up.
The facts are with the Dems.
I wrote about this on another thread, but I do think this Fox poll is the capstone to document how we’ve moved impeachment as a party and persuaded the American people. 54-41 in favor of impeachment; 50-46 in favor of removal. The average across all polls since Pelosi’s formal opening of the inquiry is 48-43. Since the hearings, it’s 49-43.
No matter how the question has been phrased: ‘impeachment inquiry’ v. ‘impeachment’ v. ‘impeach/remove’, the Dems have moved polling on each of those questions from the mid-30s into the 50s over the past 6 months. Impeachment, in at least 1 form, has been net positive for at least 4 months. That is unprecedented in US history and is all the more impressive given that we have a terrible national media that are unable to grasp the gravity of the moment. This is an example of the Dems moving the Overton Window in real time. This should give all Dems hope that we can destroy these GOP clowns in next year’s elections if we as voters remain as focused as the House Dems have been.
Interesting times ahead. Tuesday, there are protests planned across the country, providing another tool to measure the tenor of the country. If this continues I doubt the Rethugs can ignore or hide behind their wall of silence,
It is pretty clear that current opinions on Trump are pretty well fixed in place. One major wild card that shouldn’t be overlooked is that Trump is a walking, talking scandal machine, and we’ve seen only the tip of the iceberg of Trump scandals. With almost a year to go to the next election, it is possible that something big could break that would even grab the Fox watching crowd. If nothing else, he’ll be sufficiently outrageous to keep the opposition activated.
It is also worth noting that the Fox poll was taken between Dec 8 and Dec ll, before the House Judiciary Committee did its 14-hour mark-up/debate on the two articles and before the final committee vote. In other words, before the public was exposed to nearly 14 hours of Rethugs on the committee making fools of themselves with their asinine arguments. I would bet that the poll number are still on an upswing.
Nice post. these are great numbers. The 50% “removal” is significant. Americans tend to be such forgiving fools and I am too often guilty of that same thinking. ‘Throw the bum out’ says a whole lot, no matter the bias of the pollster.
