And this right here is why Republicans are trying their hardest to avoid a 9/11 type commission, or even hearings in the House over 01/06. If the public gets to see and hear how Congressional Republican react to, or how they question Capitol Police Officers during hearings then Trump’s, RoJo’s, and others denial that 01/06 was “ain’t no big thing” would wither away.
Republicans are seen as the party of Law & Order, the ones that support the military would be put on their back foot. They can’t be pro either of these groups when the FBI has found members of law enforcement and ex-military actually there attacking and storming the castle. Those that spoke out against 01/06 and have now walked it back will be seen in a poor light, either what they expressed first is true and their following statements false, or that they’ll be seen as being afraid of TFG.
All Kinzinger is going to get from GQP leadership is the standard refrain. Officer Michael Fanone is in our thoughts and prayers. The GQP leadership is nothing but fucking assholes.
I have a friend and former colleague who was always an old school Republican. He moved to Oklahoma decades ago and served as a judge there for a long time. We disagreed on many things but we respected each other and stayed in touch over the years. I am quite sure he voted for Trump in 2016 thinking his party could control him and then Biden in 2020. But he doesn’t want to talk about January 6 and when I mention it he sends me pictures of his grandchildren. They really do want to forget it and we can’t let them. Ever. For those of us in the DMV that day is still very raw and painful. The Capitol is a large employer and many were affected. Many of us pass the Capitol to and from places in the city. It’s always there in our line of vision and now it reminds us of a terrible day.
It is interesting that the old, threadbare deflections that the GOP have been trotting out for years now, don’t seem to be playing all that well, at least outside of the Fox bubble. That, and the Dems are getting much better, and more direct (and much less polite), about calling out their BS excuses. They are very much starting to look like an empty suit.
Perhaps the “so what” is that the current “stone wall” version of the Trump party just doesn’t look all that viable. What will happen to the party once Donnie decides to skip town with as much campaign cash as he can stuff into his carpet bag after he drops out of the next election at the last minute?
Five days later, Kinzinger announced that he would vote in favor of Trump’s second impeachment. He stated that there was “no doubt” that Trump “broke his oath of office and incited this insurrection.” He also accused Trump of using the power of his office to launch a direct attack on Congress.
The Wisconsin Red Cross named Kinzinger its 2006 “Hero of the Year” for wrestling a knife-wielding man to the ground and disarming him. The man had cut the throat of a woman on a street in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.[91] Recalling the event in an interview, Kinzinger said “The whole time it was, to me, kind of a done deal that I was going to get stabbed in the process, but I knew that this wasn’t something I could wake up to … every day with that memory that I watched her die.”
@playitagainrowlf observed yesterday that the GOP’s Bluster/Skill set creates impressions of strength and advantage which are, actually, less than they seem.
There are a number of things coming for Trump and the GOP…our Justice System which (thankfully) protects us is used by Trump and the GOP to hide the actual existence those things. I see too many names of too many bad guys popping up.
Well, what I think is lacking right now is time. It hasn’t been that long since Biden took over, but the MFWWNBN is fading everywhere but the fever swamps of QAnon, mostly, and the GOP which decided to become a true fascist collective.
But here’s why more time is going to solve some of this:
Democrats need to drag McCarthy and drag that son of a bitch some more. We need him to admit under oath (or risk perjury) that he and the former guy had words (the best words) on 1/6/2021.
This won’t cause any resignations in shame (let’s be serious), but we need to damage the McCarthy and his ilk so they don’t take the House back in 2022.
It’s time for the Democrats to take off their white gloves and start slinging mud.
