“Representing Central New York in Congress — solving real problems, and relentlessly championing bipartisanship — has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime,” Katko concluded.

Thank God for NY’s heavily gerrymandered map. This district was likely to go GOP until the remapping.

Note I’m anti gerrymandering, but until the GOP stops its extreme gerrymandered maps there are no reasons for Democrats to unilaterally disarm.

His district might disappear, I think. Melded into another R district.

Trump doesn’t care if the next Republican can win that district, especially as it’s redrawn, just that he gets his pound of flesh. And there lies the problem for Republicans assuming control of the House in 2022.

“Great news, another one bites the dust,” Trump crowed.

He’ll not be happy until every repub with even a shred of honor or integrity is purged from the cult.

And it’s damn near mission accomplished.

Dems: “We need to cut one distrcit from New York.”
Repubs: “Here! Over here! This one!”

I guess that the thinking is that such stories give hope for the Democrats retaining the House, e.g. a Trumpster wins the primary, but is so off-putting that the district goes blue. This ignores the fact that there at least 90 million people detached permanently from the voting process, something Democrats take as a given. A lot of people are extremely aware of wealth inequality and our political system delivers that in spades. What happened to class mobility?

Not unexpected.

But yeah, the Market’s Invisible Hand™ can solve any problem!

There may be three left.

ETA. I wouldn’t be surprised if Katko doesn’t do a loud FU to Qevin on his way out. It’s definitely deserved.

That’s a reversal from November 2021. I guess they didn’t really mean it. We should have known corporate psychopathy would set in quickly.
