Katko, Republican Who Voted To Impeach Trump, Announces Retirement

I’m in the middle of watching Band of Brothers for the first time, and it really puts things in perspective. As bad as things may be now, it’s not close to that level of horrible. It inspires me to keep my chin up.

There’s always a receipt somewhere in this digitally enhanced, tolerable imitation of a world we live in.

It just keeps getting better:

Katko’s district leans Democrat and without the longtime incumbent on the ballot may prove an easy pickup for the Democrats. Trump’s former communication director, Alyssa Farah Griffin, noted, “A big loss for Republicans. Katko’s district is D+2. It will be an uphill battle for another Republican to win it, and will likely flip Democratic.”

I feel like that when I’m in Finland trying to start the car in -20 weather.

OT: I’m old enough to remember when this guy was the dictionary definition of asshole.

I wonder if that means he’s not even allowed to take an aspirin?

Another one who has been told ‘what a nice family he has and that it would be a shame if something happened to them.’

Not seeing a lot of courage on the pro-Democracy side.

Until the Repubs decide to abandon their support of gerrymandered districts, Isn’t it about time that the Dems who control most of CA politics rescind any and all anti-gerrymandering policies and reduce the number of GOP districts in the state to about two? And definitely make sure that Kevin McCarthy doesn’t live in one of those!

Band of Brothers was wonderfully done. Yes, it brings perspective. Why have you waited so long?

Life, I guess. And my wife’s not into that type of drama depicting war so realistically. Just grateful to be watching it now.

ETA. And I understand her position. I sort of have to grit my teeth and steady myself when I anticipate a war scene coming up. And I’m just watching!

from the article:

Given how close to 50.0-50.0 Congressminion Tenney’s last three elections (won, lost, won) turned out, the redistricting will be important for just about all the Upstate seats.

Broad mix of ZIP+4-level voting patterns in the region. Broad mix of county-level voting patterns in the region, even. Despite no urbs bigger than Syracuse and Binghamton, the region (between Rochester and Albany metros) under redivision ranges from very red through very purple to very blue. Determined line-drawers could produce a wide range of results if permitted.

Rational logical and truthful thinking are things not appreciated by the goobers. Qanon, conspiracies, and rabbit holes are the way to forever happiness at the knee of trump.

Horrifying to think that Mitch McConnell is the one person keeping trump* from completely owning all the republican Senators. Mitch is not going to give up that power easily though.

I was just thinking…I’ve never watched Schindler’s List. I can’t bring myself to watch movies of human suffering. Episode 9 of Band of Brothers is tough.

At least 105%, ranging up to 110% in some elections if the ward heelers get good turnout.

The evening news is more difficult because we know even its fictitious parts are fact-based in some way.

Thanks for the heads up. I’m up to episode 6. Schindler’s List was excellent. Worth watching if you can. I also found The Pianist with Adrian Brody excellent, but haunting.
