Trump will not give a penny to Ukraine - Hungary PM Orban (bbc.com)
Donald Trump will not fund Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s invasion if he is elected US president again, Hungarian PM Viktor Orban has said.
“He will not give a penny in the Ukraine-Russia war. That is why the war will end,” the conservative premier said after meeting Mr Trump in Florida.
The former US president has pledged to end the war “within 24 hours” if elected - but provided no details.
Mr Orban is openly backing his long-term ally in the 2024 White House race.

Perhaps the most amusing aspect of this entire mini-scandal is the inept preening by the other Alabama senator, Tommy Tuberville, who for at least one news cycle wasn’t his state’s worst senator.
I suspect there have been others, but Tuberville’s defense of Britt is the only public one I’ve seen.
ETA: Thanks to the mentions downthread of other defenses. But I think one can still say that the exceptions prove the rule: it was disastrous, and people are having real difficulty getting around that fact.

I posted this yesterday in what I think is the best response to Katie Britt. This Alabama mom is retired Navy and makes some perfect rebuttals to Britt’s criticisms of Biden. She should run for office. Good reminder that not everyone in Alabama is a racist bigot.

We shouldn’t forget that for all the “rebuttal’s” ridiculous self-parody (Britt made a Stepford Wife look like Betty Friedan), the core point is this:
The whole reason and central theme of the “rebuttal” was the opportunity to transmit a lie into the American political discourse. That is now the heart and soul of the Republican Party: injecting poisonous falsehoods into the national bloodstream.
And for all the derision it caused, and for all the fact that Brit has become a female Bobby Jindal, pushing the Big Lie was the whole point of the exercise, and the messenger, as always, was expendable.
(I’m sure, though, that in Alabama the fact that sane people mock her is one more reason for the voters there to support Britt; gotta own the libs).

Not even Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R) is wingnut enough for the MAGA hordes, who claim they will submit the required signatures today to force a recall vote against Vos for not being sufficiently onboard with the 2020 Big Lie.

Britt’s dramatic delivery of the rebuttal had already invited parody and concern about the religious themes she demonstrated. The news that a central image in it was a lie just made things worse. “Everyone’s f*cking losing it,” a Republican strategist told The New Republic ’s Ellie Quinlan Houghtaling. “It’s one of our biggest disasters ever.”

IIRC, Trump posted a positive review of her rebuttal on TruthSocial. I doubt he wrote it himself or thought she did well. One thing he does know is how the media works, and he must have known she bombed, hard.

The cameras panned over celebrities laughing at the expense of the Orange Menace - not only was he humiliated, but it was public and he was laughed at by ‘the elite’ who will never accept him, even though he was once POTUS.
