Fair, but, I am so old, that I remember the NY Times covering a jobs report that showed unemployment at its lowest levels in my entire adult life with a headline that read: “200,000 job openings disappeared last month.” (The openings “disappeared” because the jobs were filled, and unemployment dropped.)

After letting this pick settle with me. For a bit I am starting to think this was a very, very good decision. Walz has a very “normal” presentation and persona. He does not come off as extreme or unlikeable in any way. He was a teacher and football coach, he has military service bona fives , governing experience, he is an effective communicator, congressional relationships etc. He provides great balance in many ways. It was also a “do no harm” pick. Shapiro is a great governor in Pennsylvania but he can and should be an active, effective and vocal surrogate for the whole democratic ticket. He is popular in the commonwealth and a great communicator. It also is smart 9i think) to not bring the issues that progressives have raised regarding his candidacy recently. The Israeli/Palestinian conflict would become front and center with a Shapiro pick but he would not be able to bat that down as effectively as Walz . We also don’t need to promote the kerfuffle regarding Shapiro’s “IDF service” while in college, his issues with teachers unions and that stupid simmering push back about his handling of the sexual harassment suit in his administration. I hope all the VP finalists get 1000%behind the ticket and get this done.

Fat Elvis’s handlers won’t let Mini Me do that — he’s clearly shown he’s no kind of an orator at all and Walz has been thinking on his feet and dealing with dumb and awkward questions all his life, as well as knowing how to deal with juvenile behavior. Teaching trains you well for that stuff.

Especially the 100 days part. I actually think people would be more engaged in elections if they didn’t just seem to be going on all the time forever. How do we get this to actually happen?

I think you nailed it, re: PA. Dems swept the state in historic numbers during Biden’s election. Delaware County, for example, elected a democratic slate of council members for the first time in history.
Dems do have an advantage in registration, but the number has been declining as independent registration #'s go up.

I’m glad she went with Walz, as he seems to be the best to pick-up votes from certain demographics that contrast with Harris. And thank goodness she didn’t make the mistake of going with a Tim Kaine type, who would have added little to her strengths.

Dauphin county also went for president Biden in 2020, which is an historic flip of a red county to blue.

I think that young voters will love him as they did Bernie. He has the “It” factor. As a teacher, he knows how to reach this voting group. This is so exciting!!!
