Is that how he got the moniker Pee Wee German?
thinking of ways to deny people due process that will be politically palatable, so he can take them from everyone.
I suppose when you spend your whole life from at least high school onward idolizing right-wing nutcases, then that is likely to be your main employment. Try as I might, I’ve never been able to identify any key goals of the far right wing other than depriving as many people as possible of their rights and freedoms in the most damaging manner possible. I keep thinking they must have some other goals, but I’ve never been able to see what they are. Must be horrible ever to be in a room with Miller. Can’t imagine what his conversation is like.
I wish Judge Beryl Howell was on this case -I know different jurisdiction. She tends to call out the government bullshit a bit more aggressively.
They’re saving that one for Round 2 in court.
DOJ: Well You Didn’t Say How Many Hours
Geez, are they ten years old?
Glad to see the Judge recognizes the real victim here, himself - for getting lied to. Some people get distracted and think the people illegally shipped to torture gulags are the real victims
the migrants, wherever they are (we don’t know where they are, though we suspect it’s somewhere in or near the content of Africa)
Does anybody know what the futures market has for slave trading these days?
What?!? Seriously, bring them back to the U.S. and do the interviews here where their attorneys are. Jaysus, this is bonkers.
The government wants him to say that ICE can conduct reasonable fear interviews with the migrants, wherever they are (we don’t know where they are, though we suspect it’s somewhere in or near the content of Africa). A DHS official testified around an hour and a half ago that he would need to call to see if that would be possible.
The DOJ now says that they need another 15 minutes to see if that is the case. We’ll reconvene at 3:20 PM ET.
… (we don’t know where they are, though we suspect it’s somewhere in or near the content of Africa).
Unbelievably, after the judge was about to give it a very generous win, the Trump DOJ asked him to stay any order he issues to give it a chance to appeal it.
The judge seems baffled and says this isn’t a new injunction but a remedy for violation of the existing injunction.
It looks like DOJ has spent the last several hours leading the judge around
Hard to understand how, after violating his order, the judge is letting them try to remedy this by some kind of “due process” on the tarmac.
If the government lied and disregarded the order, how will you trust them when they tell you all the prisoners were psyched to go to South Sudan since Africa had been on all their bucket lists?
IANAL, but yeah, ditto.
It doesn’t work like that. Jail is a last resort. Lesser sanctions must first be imposed and proven to be ineffective at securing compliance.
So in a few years then?
Most likely never. Stephen Miller will cave before he ever spends so much as a single night in jail.
I agree with the sentiment, but I’m not sure how that would work. Miller is clearly influential, but he has no authority over any of those people or their agencies. As much as I loathe the fucker, you can’t prosecute and/or imprison the “big idea” guy just because his ideas are abhorrent.
Agreed, however…
Giddy up, judge
Time is of the essence
They need time to strong arm South Sudan into making them citizens.
Then let’s start sanctioning. The Courts giving the Trump regime another deadline they blow past or order they ignore just makes the judiciary look weak and feckless.

What?!? Seriously, bring them back to the U.S. and do the interviews here where their attorneys are
Yeah, i mean aside from the legality and morality… it would even be cheaper to fly that one plane back to the us than to fly the lawyers over in one or more additional planes.
They all have to eventually fly home. If only there were a government department devoted to saving money and finding efficiency…
Shucks.
