Judge Threatens DHS With Contempt Over Migrant Removals to South Sudan

Originally published at: Judge Threatens DHS With Contempt Over Migrant Removals to South Sudan - TPM – Talking Points Memo

The Trump administration sent a planeload of detainees to South Sudan on Tuesday, according to the detainees’ lawyers, allegedly violating a clear court order to provide people sent to third countries with notice and time to challenge their removal. It’s the latest example of brazen defiance of the courts from the Trump administration. In this…

Damn, I was really holding out for the “South Sudan made them citizens” excuse. Claiming South Sudan is just an extended layover is seriously weak nonsense.

Not so sure much will come of this. The DOJ is on the side of the people doing the rendering, and not so much interested in enforcing the law or any court adjudications.

Will be interesting to see if anything comes of this latest travesty.

So far it’s just more of the same from the courts. We were hopeful when the outrage was expressed, but it’s getting old if no one is actually held in contempt.

Nothing is going to happen. Nothing ever does.

The only hope at this point is for US…THE PEOPLE to force the Rethugs in Congress to do their damn jobs and issue warrants for this creep and his willing henchmen/women. The courts do not have the power to arrest the SOB. Congress does. We need to inundate the Rethug Reps and Senators with angry letters/emails/calls until they finally get the message that their little evangelical coup overstepped bigly, and we are NOT having it. It is past time for progressives/Dems/Sane People to stop whining and wringing hands and get active. Let these cowardly Rethugs know they are going to pay a price for kissing up to this wannabe Mafia Don. Their self interest will eventually take over. Time to stop being polite. Threats work on these cowards, and we have the means to threaten their power.
The cowards/haters who still support the crimes this Bozo is committing will fold like a cheap tent if they see the power of people who will stand up for democracy and our Constitution…and that includes this pathetic excuse for a SCOTUS.

This confirms my previous impression that the timing/location of the deportation flights is their transparently nonsensical basis for the claim of state secrets privilege. Notwithstanding that we can all track the flights in real time.

This is ALL Stephen Miller’s doing. Trump, Noem and Bondi are his willing public stooges. Until he is spanked or jailed, such illegal travesties will continue.

Were these people in prison here? If they are criminals wouldn’t they be in prison? We imprison immigrants all the time.

Ensign proposes that the court order a “reasonable fear interview” for the detainees in their current location. They remain in ICE custody, the government says.

It reads like ICE is not a part of the United States government, and the United States government is afraid to ruffle their feathers.

If I believe that the government doesn’t give a shit about what the judge says, and there is nothing the judge can do about it. Does that make me a legal nihilist?

I would say it makes you a crystal ball prognosticator, a fortune teller. We haven’t seen any of these cases reach a final conclusion yet.

You got it right, these judges are cowards, bullying poor people everyday for far less. But they will let Republican Politicians violate human rights while giving 15 final chance warnings.

Judge pathetically cries: why doesnt somebody else with power do something?

It’s gotten to the point where you can almost feel the judges, even the Supreme Court, begging tRump to please not defy us so we don’t have to be outed for the power we never had.

When the judge finds contempt, he should immediately jail them. Then when the next DOJ lawyer comes in, jail them. And so on. (My fervent hope)
