This is the conundrum Trump has whined and complained about that he won by more votes in 2016, then 2020, and I think he even whined about 2024. He’s petulant since he thinks every voter who voted in any of the three elections all voted for him.

His resignation was right at the beginning of the viral #metoo movement, and he was pressured by other Dems to resign for the sake of the party. It was basically a zero tolerance moment in time, reacting to more serious behavior by other men in the news, and he was caught up in it.
