Franken, a target of the right, probably had no idea what was coming. Hannity had let the Tweeden photos sit in his oppo research files for several years. But Rupert was still mad about Franken’s Lying liars book from 2003 (about the time Tweeden appeared in Playboy) so when the #metoo movement arrived in 2017, the narrative took hold. The USO traditional buxom beauty character is quite prestigious, and has included the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Raquel Welch. Franken’s sin, as the narrative was constructed, was messing with an American archetype. Even Tweeden had no idea that there was any scandal there until her “grudge” had been scripted and Fox was paying big bucks to her.

I’m actually surprised Mike Johnson even admitted to knowing anything about the allegations against Gonzales. Or really that he even knows Gonzales at all.
