House Democrats are reportedly planning to hold their full caucus’ 215-member-strong line during the speakership election on Friday, as incumbent Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) vies to re-secure his place as head of one arm of the incoming Republican trifecta. With at least two members of the House Democratic conference experiencing health issues, there was some…
“Performs Confidence”
Everything these people do is some kind of stupid and/or sick performance.
The GOP caucus couldn’t be so incompetent that enough of them vote ‘present’ to give Jeffries a majority of votes cast? If so, does the new rule preclude any Republican motion to vacate the Speakership?
Most likely Massie will get his pound of flesh – probably something to blow the govt up – and the other ‘doubtfuls’ will receive theirs too as the Republicans get in line. Johnson is Trump’s pick and there is no alternative with the threat of a possible Jeffries speakership in the background although it may take a few tries before they get it done. Bad cess to them regardless.
Rep. Dwight Evans (D-Pa.) [age 70], who hasn’t voted since having what his office described as a “minor” stroke in May last year…
So should-be retiree ran for re-election after suffering a stroke??!!??! This one does make me angry! Was there no other Dem who could have won in that district?
We will see if history repeats, or maybe we won’t…

House Speaker kevin McCarthy speaks to media at the US Capitol, in Washington, D.C., on Monday, January 9.
CNN —
House GOP leaders and key negotiators won’t commit to publicly releasing details about the side deals Kevin McCarthy cut in order to secure the speakership, undercutting the Republican pledge to run their chamber openly and transparently and as some rank-and-file members call for more information about the promises that were made.”
With no speaker in place, they cannot certify the election. Let’s hope this battle goes on until close to Jan 20. No speaker, no certification, no inauguration. Gives us some time to laugh, at the least.
Musk must think he is the shadow president dictating directives to Germany and now the UK.
No, a motion to vacate the Speakership is reserved to the GOP. The proposed rule provides that a "resolution causing a vacancy in the Office of Speaker shall not be privileged except if it is offered by a member of the majority party and has accumulated eight cosponsors from the majority party at the time it is offered.’’

Super-safe PA DEM district. He should have retired. He has “all intentions” to return in 2025, but even the Philly Inquirer can’t get a straight answer.
It would be delicious if just a few R’s are absent for whatever reason tomorrow and the Dems roll Jeffries into the Speakership.
Mike Johnson is too smarmy for me.
smarmy: 1: revealing or marked by a smug, ingratiating, or false earnestness
a tone of smarmy self-satisfaction
2: of low sleazy taste or quality
smarmy eroticism
C’mon, it’s never too early to start those purity purges.
Not sure Johnson is gonna win
All this a just for show The GQP are a bunch of failed script writers. They think “drama” like this will rivet attention whereas it is just phony soap opera. He is a shoo in— who else have they got? They really have no talent.
Dems vow perfect attendance
It is impossible not to imagine a “NY Times Pitchbot” type subhead:
In this Washington Soul Food restaurant, even Biden voters ask if Dems are acting like the teacher’s pet through by caring about their performative attendance, while the Speaker rolls up his sleeves to fight for his gavel.
By those standards they have 217 equally qualified candidates.
It won’t. Stop hoping for pointless miracles.
