It would still be to Willis’ advantage to accept a plea deal that reduced the number of felonies and agreed upon a sentence on the lower end of the possible. It gets the perp out of the perp box so she doesn’t have to deal with them and potentially garners even more useful corroboration against the top few (who are now standing naked and vulnerable as the evidence and witnesses pile up against them).

I think I remember reading that felony means mandatory jail time (subject to correction). Felony charges can be downgraded to misdemeanors and probation in plea deals, which is what happened with Powell. It’s a good legal hook to encourage flipping.
