Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), chair of the Jan. 6 Select Committee, said that the panel is likely to begin holding public hearings in May because it needs more time to work through depositions according to NPR.
I know I am in the minority here in this, but since this is one the few tools available to pierce the disinformation bubble that many of our compatriots inhabit, I don’t see any reason the committee can’t start with those witnesses they are confident about as they prepare for the others. Getting one’s ducks in a row is well and good if one is a duck-straightener, but in this case I’d opt for a school-based metaphor: the People’s House will get credit for showing their work.
A damn shame that 1/6 hearings and prosecutions will all be moving forward right as McConnell is trying to push through seemingly sane candidates in the primaries while the GOP base is screaming for more red meat. What could possibly go wrong?
Holding public hearings during primetime hours would be a novel move — most congressional hearings are held during the day.
What would be truly novel is holding hearings 5 or (gasp) 6 days a week. The constitution does not require the House to restrict its hours to just late Tuesday morning thru early Thursday afternoon.
O I’m so sad that there is too much evidence and they have to delay the start of hearings to go through all the evidence they’ve gathered. How about September for prime time hearings, guys? I like that idea.
I agree, but the very hot nature of the war for Ukraine right now is such that it may not penetrate.
But they should also take up a different endeavor on Russian disinformation in light of the current crisis. This will inevitably lead to examining closer the “Perfect Call” then back to 2016.
Seems with that all of ot can be tied together to the evil triumvirate of Trump/Putin/GOP.
