I just hope that they advertise the schedule and times a couple weeks before hand, so that I can take off work if needed.
The hearings will run throughout June.
The hearings are set to start June 9 and run through the end of that month.
Some sessions will be aired during prime time, and others during the day, Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) told reporters.
… … … …
Actually set or are they just screwing around? First it was February, then March or mebbe April…By now they should have shit tons of evidence for a compelling story of why trump should have been indicted 6 months ago and already be in prison.
I hope not. Keep is simple for the bone heads in the audience. Show trump to be the traitor he most certainly is and why he is. Explain how he hates democracy. And goes gagaga over Putin (his BFF) and that man’s dictatorship. There is so damned much that trump should fry on. His comeuppance is waaay overdue.
This is the first time we have a hard date, so I would view that as a good sign. Just stating a month timeframe gave them wiggle room, but this sounds like they’ve cleared their calendars and started booking rooms.
I would agree. We do not know our own strength. If we were to spend a little more time to codify-then-publicize our accomplishments, we would fortify our appeal tremendously. Significant legislation is on the books and we spend more time agonizing about what we don’t have. At some point we are going to need a person like Howard Dean to be an aggressive advocate for us.
I have mentioned this elsewhere on this site…Biden is focusing on being conciliatory and stressing American unity/commonality and acting like an adult so as to get the public used to mature behavior in our politics. This is aimed at accustoming us to that, instead of juvenile and hateful rhetoric focusing on negativity.
However, we also are going to have to remind people that serious work needs to be done. Part of that is what the J6 Committee is tasked with. Another part of it is letting people know what we have been able to accomplish and what we stand for. We need aggressive surrogates…if not Dean, then someone like him
8 hearings. Wonder how long they’ll last before masty gaetz and gym jordan crash one of the hearings. I’m betting on the 3rd one, if it is in prime time. Better station the cop who shot babbitt outside the door.
Maybe with a side order of “that woman can’t tell me what to do.”
And trembling.
That’s the problem, they keep finding new evidence that leads to more new evidence, and they keep getting testimony about what happened. Each stone turns up more roaches scurrying out of the light, and they have been trying to follow all of that. My guess is they think they have enough (or will with what they get in the next month) and have the bones of the story laid out. Now, it’s a matter of putting it together in a compelling way and presenting it to America, hoping the people really get how close we came to the government being overthrown and Trump being installed as a dictator, and how the Republicans are gearing up to do it all again. The second part might not be presented in the hearings, but you can bet it will be a campaign theme from the Democratic party this fall.
This also means that they will present enough evidence to get the DoJ involved before the 60 day cutoff before the election, so we may see some movement there as well. It’s a lot easier for Garland to start throwing his weight around after all that testimony, especially if it moves the needle on people thinking crimes were committed.
This all seems like it’s moving in a way that should make it clear what happened, how it happened, and why it happened. The outstanding question is how people will react to it…it’s the worst assault on our government since Watergate, but it’s not clear that will penetrate in our partisan times.
Kind of like Trump?
Can you guess who shared this pearl of marketing wisdom? “From a marketing point of view, you don’t introduce new products in August.”
Was it Apple founder Steve Jobs? Advertising legend David Ogilvy? Good guesses, but no. It was White House chief of staff Andrew Card in September of 2002, explaining why the Bush administration didn’t make the case for the second Gulf War during the summer.
I hope this committee knows what it’s doing, but it’s hard to underestimate the average American voter. There’s a danger that this will be Old News by November.
OT: This showed up on my news consolidation this morning. They don’t give a specific reason for the action.
Anyone shed some light on the conflict?

They fucking well better because I am not keen on living under a dictator, especially one as twisted and mentally ill as trump is.
I was around for Watergate as I was a young guy in my mi twenties when Nixon resigned in 1974. I avidly watched what I could on TV of the hearings.
“I’m not getting in that car” while nowhere near as romantic or lyrical as “Don’t give up the ship,” now nonetheless bears as much weight in saving this country. Chris Hayes report is not just chilling, it’s terrifying to see just how close we came to a fascist coup. And those same plotters are out there, waiting for another turn. Mock my terror if it makes you feel powerful and smug, but I would certainly be happy to be wrong. But from where we sit right now, I’m not wrong. Not one bit.

R’s put all their eggs in the “Partisan Witch-hunt” basket. While 35% of America will follow them deep into that dark, dank hole, the sentient amongst us want justice for what happened on January 6th.
The spotlight has been on that 35% for seven years…ever since Trump came down that escalator.
