I’m saddened and angered by the prevalence of Fox News being displayed in the background in so many places such as restaurants and small-scale retail, and even waiting rooms at doctor’s offices, and such. I’ve noticed that airports typically feature CNN and/or the Weather Channel, but smaller-scale places still reach an awful lot of people. Sound is off, but still, they’re closed-captioned for the mentally impaired.

This is never going to happen ever. If that’s the yardstick by which you’re measuring the committee’s success than I can promise you, guarantee actually, that you’ll never view their work as successful. Trump isn’t going to change or confess and neither will most of those who were involved. That’s why we can’t measure the committee’s success based on what bad people do. We have to base success on what good people do, how they react. Do they go out to vote in big numbers and sweep Dems into office across the country? Do Dems hold the House and pick up the Senate? Good people can deliver us these things. Bad people never will. Good people can keep this country out of the hands of tyrants. Bad people will only ever try to stop good people from doing good things. If we make them and their actions the metric by which we judge we’ll never be successful at anything.
Right, we can’t keep wasting energy on hoping they’ll come to see things our way. Maybe some will, but they’ll do it on their own and it won’t be one thing that makes them say, “Ah-ha, I get it now.” It’ll be multiple things over time that kind of wear them down until they’re just over it. That said, most will never see the absolute obvious because they don’t want to and because they get something out of not seeing it. We can’t focus on those folks. If we do, we’ll lose and we’ll lose everything.

I disagree. The Qpublicans have been making our current system, with its built-in provisions for facilitating minority rule and its glacial-slow “legal system”, seem to be working just fine for them now. They, under the leadership of that former guy, aren’t so much “tearing it down” as fully utilizing the potential it provides to a totally unethical political party.

We have known for 30-40 years that 24/7 cable and that sort of news cycle leads to short memories. “The Media” is truly in the game, and increasingly not just entertainment and advertising but now the news…is in the game of maintaining a ‘matrix’. Keeping the plates spinning and balls juggling and maintaining the facade that it’s all going to be OK and stores will be open and boner pills still need to be sold.
Even if ‘The Media’ and news orgs weren’t trying to dictate a reality to us, keep us outraged and mad and fighting each other…it would still drive our collective memory and ability to focus down down down. Just too much stuff coming at us every day. And humans collectively just don’t have a long memory for the most part, anyways
The Rs have had a great benefit, while J6C and DOJ work silently and slowly and without bombast and are careful to dot all the i’s and doing everything responsibly, the Rs have had 1.5 YEARS to flood the space with toxic nonsense. The J6C is going to try to do sober reflection, teach the nation a hard hard lesson that will require a lot of repair work, and mete out justice (recommendations) that are appropriate and guaranteed to enrage 75 million voters no matter how perfectly the Ds have performed.
Without being the Ds fault in any way, everything works against them. The easy, the convenient, the look the other way, the sweep it under the rug, the tribal hear-no-evil, the toxic hostility, media bias, Chump fascination and worship, the endless whiffs at Chump accountability. Not an envious place.
And yet, still I expect the Ds will put on a hell of a case and we will watch half a nation attempt to ignore or poison it. Expect unheard of R tactics and toxicity as they try to counter-program this. Each step the responsibility tightens around the Ds to put every step perfect while Rs will go to new levels of dangerousness to try to blow it all up.

We’re literally and figuratively outgunned by a powerful political faction that will do anything to take and keep power. What’s going to happen when Beto wins in Texas or Fetterman wins in PA, but the respective legislatures just decide that the Republican candidate actually “should have” won? Abrams in Georgia, Ryan in Ohio? If you think it’s only going to be bad in 2024, you’re not paying attention. It’s bad now and will just get worse. This January 6th Committee will not move the needle because you don’t pick a tribe for logical reasons, and almost all Americans have picked a side. God help us if the currently undecideds’ choice makes the difference. The future of our country is a proverbial crapshoot and that terrifies me.

Can I confess my secret fear? The Jan 6 committee will lay out clear evidence of a large, coordinated conspiracy to overthrow our goddamn government and that senior members of the administration aided and abetted that conspiracy, but because there’s no video of Jared and MBS dancing the tarantella on a sharpied scrawl reading “Hang Mike Pence”, the talking heads on tv will just refuse to see the evidence for what it is - “they conspired, but did they collude?” and “ can an incompetent conspiracy to overthrow the very constitution you swore to protect really count as sedition?” and so forth.
Predictions of bombshells make me nervous because it ratchets up expectations.

I would call trump’s life a continuing series of interrelated Ponzi pyramid schemes.
He’s a con man. someone who’d try to sell you a used and inoperable crappy Yugo and make you believe it is a lovingly handcrafted Maserati of the absolute finest quality. Now. a full third of people would be taken in by his sales pitch and think they’re doing him a favor by buying the piece of junk. Another 15% would say "Boy can that guy “sell” stuff. The other 52% would think trump is full of shit and call him a shyster to his face.

I really, really hope so. Everything that’s come out so far makes it clear that the former administration was totally focused on overturning the election. Their plan was unworkable but they did work at it very hard.

And this is part I have a problem understanding. They went to court, many times they went to court, and yet it seemed to escape them that they had to show proof of skullduggery. When in fact all they had were the whiney complaints of one big fat orange
