Jan. 6 Committee Asks Reps. Brooks, Biggs, Jackson For Info - TPM – Talking Points Memo

She offered them a chance to go and they refused, because, I assume, she’s too monstrous and loathsome to travel with or be part of a praiseworthy effort with or who even knows with these freaks. Maybe democracy and living in peace with your neighbors aren’t as highly valued in some quarters as they once ostensibly were.

In related news, the retired NYPD cop who beat on a DC cop and tried to defend himself by claiming that the DC cop signaled he wanted to throw down just lost his trial. Guilty on all counts, and I’m guesstimating a sentence around 3-4 years will be forthcoming a few months from now.

Since simply objecting to electoral votes does not usually require a bullet-proof vest, looks like Mo Brooks has some explaining to do. In particular, It would be nice to hear who Mo Brooks expected to pull a gun on him in the House chamber such that kevlar protection was required…

Can someone ask Kemp to define “a representative government”?
Am I imagining it but have we moved closer to some of these folks thinking that they have a “divine right to rule”?
And notice I used rule as opposed to govern.

Nah, they are looking for the real players in this sedition, not the TV actors.

Mo Brooks genuinely thought Antifa was going to do some anti-MAGA violence. That was the plan for much of December and early January, but the left declined to take the bait, so the planners decided to just attack the Capitol directly. Mo Brooks just didn’t know the plan had changed.

There are no longer conversations of value to be had with congressional RWNJs.

It’s possible they have gathered direct evidence showing that these Derp State reps had joined the conspiracy or whatever, but I would expect it would have been referenced in their invitation letters if that were the case. The only realistic reason any of these miscreants would testify voluntarily is if they felt they needed to explain away something really bad, and the only way to make them realize that they need to do so is to confront them with the really bad facts. If you want their testimony, you don’t hold onto the really bad facts for a subsequent surprise reveal.

Funny, I seem to remember the majority of people who actually voted in 2016 being pretty damned frustrated with the results - since the person with the fewest votes managed to win - and yet, besides a few legitimate discussions about ways to make the electoral college more representative of actual voter wishes, I do not recall blue states across the nation doing everything they could to suppress conservative voters.

But the Republicans have pretty well said “fuck democracy” at this point - it isn’t working for them. They have been on an authoritarian trend since Gingrich, but with Trump all of the covers came off. Now it is not enough to win by exploiting suppression, ignorance and grievance - now you have to actually punish the people who voted against you. People loved Trump because he went after their perceived enemies, not because of anything his policies did for them. It is all about revenge, now.

It is obvious to me that we are heading for something big. I have no idea what it may be, but this is not a sustainable system.

“Spoiler: They’re not going to cooperate.“

The committee has to have expected that from the outset. This begs the question as to why they are asking the questions in such a public way. I’m not knowledgeable about the legal aspects, but they must have a goal in mind.

Or you could go up the down escalator. Some people just plant magic beans and wait for their ride to blossom into maturity. These people are good at biding their time.
