It's Clearer Than Ever That Jan. 6 Wasn't The End But The Beginning

“The death of the student essay is not merely an academic concern. It is not just a problem for young people hoping to get good grades, nor is it only relegated to the realm of my fellow elbow-patched nerds. Instead, the rapidly improving ability to impressively mimic human language poses an existential threat to traditional methods of crafting smarter minds—which thereby challenges the future of human cognition.”

I am happy to say that the machines will be happy to let human children study the machine’s language and learn from them.

MA imposed a ‘millionaire’s tax’ a couple of years ago; it is producing more revenue than had been expected.

Still waiting for Bill Ackman to choke, fatally, on his lunch.

Thank you, everybody who’s shared beautiful pix or videos today. It’s a welcome antidote to all this misery. What a miserable Juneteenth–that story about Plano really broke my heart.

The fact that NASA is not longer the lead on space endeavors is so disappointing.

The country should not be paying an independent company to create and, more importantly, control this program. Of course, we have independent contractors, but Musk should not be in control of this program.

This is the guy who supposedly has Trump’s ear at the moment. Knows what’s what but he’s an Iran hawk. (Google AI summary):

General Michael E. Kurilla, the commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), is a prominent figure in the US military, particularly regarding Middle East affairs. While not a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he is a four-star general who interacts with them and has become a key advisor to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on matters related to Iran and the region. Some reports even suggest he has influenced policy decisions, potentially overruling other Joint Chiefs members on issues like the deployment of forces to the Middle East.

From Morning Memo

The Cruelty Remains The Point

On the same day at the Supreme Court ruled against gender-affirming care for transgender youth, the Trump administration said it was ending specialized support for LGBTQ callers to the national suicide prevention hotline.

Impeachment (conviction) is a mathematical impossibility in the minoritarian Senate. It may have been a reasonable outcome when there were 13 states, but as the country expanded, the Senate effectively represents land, which does not vote, but underrepresents people. It’s just math. It’s just a meaningless alternative, and constitutional reform is tethered to the same math. There has to be another way, but talking about impeachment is pointless.

So we can expect some form of allowance for discrimination in renting practices? Making it legal not to rent to minorities? Or just democrats? (which means brown)

In trump’s second inpeachment he came fairly close to losing as a majority voted to convict but it was short of the 2/3rds needed.
