Righteous white savages. Did you know there was a select few led by and capital policeman into the main chambers where they shuffled and went through our Ted Cruz‘s papers in his little black binder. Exactly, James1. Well said. I was extremely moved reading this article, and I thank Alec MacGillis for writing from this perspective. One of the most frustrating things about the last 4 years for me is not being able to understand the far right. This shows me that many of the people in the insurrection are not fascists or intentional terrorists - like Boogaloo Bois. Many are people like the people who live down the street who have been crippled by the echo chamber of Fox News. They are not deserving of hate, and maybe, in the more sane world of a Biden-Harris admin, they will return to the mainstream. That said, we do need to deal with the people who went there with the idea of hurting people and overthrowing the government. Thanks, Alec, for helping me understand better.

Toward the end of the article when authors typically try to cement their impressions.
“I got pepper-sprayed,” he tells the man, proudly. “Not me, but the people in front of me in the crowd, and the wind came and hit me. Dude, you got to check out this video I got.” He reaches around to his back pocket for his phone, but the older man breaks in.
“They said a girl got killed in the House,” he says, somberly.
“How?” asks the young man.
“In the House. She went in the House and they told her to stop three times and they shot her in the neck.”
The news of this death doesn’t faze the young man at all. Still smiling coolly, he wants to pick right back up with the story of his adventure storming the Capitol. “See, I went all the way up there underneath the scaffolding. … I climbed up it. … Everyone was like push-push-push and the cops started pepper-spraying. … You got to look at this — ”
“They killed an American girl,” the older man says, trying to get him to focus on that fact. But it’s no use. The young man keeps trying to show him his video clip of the pepper spray."

I occasionally listen to the wingnuts on AM radio to see what they are saying to motivate their prey. I listened to an evangelical radio broadcast last Saturday morning, and they were interviewing Michele Bachmann. The theme was that the country and Christianity would be under increasing attack under a Biden presidency as opposed to the righteous Trump who was a wonderful president for the Christians. We’re heading for perdition. She said that the people who showed up for the Save America rally before the insurrection were just there to show support for Trump whose election was being stolen and to pray. The evil Left needed to discredit these righteous Trump supporters, so they sent in Black Lives Matter protestors and Democrats to steal the identities of the Trump supporters and to commit violence in their name. She explained that identity theft is wrong, but didn’t offer any evidence to support her theory that it was a false flag operation. She concluded that the listeners should not watch main stream news because it is all fake. They should instead listen to these religious broadcasts to get the true story.

Well, we have 36 hours left in his term to find out if Trump is going to commit one final outrage to end all outrages by pardoning all these violent, racist insurrectionists, traitors, and murderers.
Supposedly, a flood of pardons for his cronies and others who bribed him are coming tomorrow — will he also actually go completely to the bottom and pardon these thugs? I fear he will. Why? Because every time you think Trump can’t possibly sink any lower or do something any more despicable, he does it rather easily.
